As the far-right AfD is preparing a joint motion in the Saxony-Anhalt council together with the far-left BSW calling for an end to military support for Ukraine, one may want to recall this piece from 2023. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/04/21/germany-russia-interference-afd-wagenknecht/

1. CORRECTION: It's not "some really bad years in a row", it's really bad years for the next 50,000 years, starting from ... NOW.

Yes, I've seen some of the abuse on this site for the stance I've taken. But it won't change my belief that this motion is gesture politics of the kind you might find in a students' union. Except in this case it has real and damaging consequences - that are already playing out. A massive self-own.

For the sake of a slogan achieving nothing except great concern and distress to British Jews, Green members have probably destroyed any hope that a party - their party - which consistently and clearly opposes the #genocide will join the next government. Genius. 🤦‍♂️

Some people here don't seem to have understood the purpose of a political party.
It's not the same as a protest movement.
It is a vehicle designed to get into government, to change legislation and make a material difference to the lives of people at home and abroad.

Let me try this once more.
It was a choice.
EITHER the Greens adopted a slogan.
OR they could have joined the next govt, where they could push for an end to arms sales, sanctions, support for the arrest warrants etc.
It was never going to be both.
Which one makes a material difference?

Why are the Tories talking about inheritance tax? The economy is riddled with real problems that need attention, but the Tories are talking about their goal of widening the wealth divide. Why? youtu.be/R27sj9UZj3w?...
