The world had warmed ~1.2C in 2018 (SR15) & we now admit, 8 years later, exceeding 1.5C is unavoidable.
The world is ~1.5C today, & warming ~0.3C/decade. Can we say that <1.8C is possible? I don't think we realise how close we are!

Agree with this thread. Ultimately it is system change that matters, but human systems are made up of individuals, and so individual actions—especially in countries and among populations with high per capita emissions—do matter.

Agree with this thread. Ultimately it is system change that matters, but human systems are made up of individuals, and so individual actions—especially in countries and among populations with high per capita emissions—do matter.

At this point, solving climate change is cheaper than not solving it -- not only on some grand 50 year time horizon, but tomorrow, today, immediately. Soving climate change *is* affordability. Maybe Dems should tell voters about that.

They are complementary. There are essentially 0 drugs approved that didn't rely on NIH R&D. But NIH funding alone cannot deliver drugs, because NIH funding discovers new biology, but pharma R&D discovers the actual **drugs** (small molecule, monoclonal antibody) that modulates the biology.

i don't really know about other industries, but with software i have got to say that refusal to use ai at any place in development is acceptance of inability to compete. at the same time, refusal to maintain standards and quality through manual work is also acceptance of inability to compete.
