I've seen what feels like an increasing number of attempts at political capture by fringe groups playing out in these races in recent years.

As I don't want to see my community treated as a staging ground for extremism, I now pay much closer attention.

I don't know why we are paying for this office.
I called on the commissioner's office over the meeting between Alberta separatists and State Department and a $500 mil slush fund.
I was blown off and told to send concerns to "general inquiries."
ie. the dead letter office.

"Invasion."

"Remigration."

They're terms you'd more commonly associate with America's toxic debate around immigration policy than Canada's. But they're starting to pop up here. You can thank Danielle Smith and the UCP for that. #cdnpoli #abpoli

America’s anti-immigration politics are coming to Canada — and Alberta invited them in
The separation question has consumed most of the attention around the province's October 19th referendum. The immigration-related questions also on the ballot might be just as dangerous and divisive.

And yet we are still in NORAD. We treat the US as an ally. Insanity. They obviously see us as enemies. It's time for us to take them seriously.
A Globe and Mail investigation has found that Republican political operatives were on the ground in Alberta this year to assist the separatist campaign in its bid to leave Canada, while harbouring their own aspirations for the province to secede.

Carney, the economic genius, is pumping our public money into a losing bet.
"The government’s huge subsidization of this project lays bare a reality unfolding across the world economy: Fossil fuels aren’t just losing to clean energy. They’ve lost. In fact, the difference is now a trillion-dollar one," writes Clean Energy Canada's Rachel Doran. #cdnpoli
