I'm not disputing your numbers, it's awful and tragic.

Guessing you're not familiar with the reference - it's a short story by Terry Jones of Monty Python fame.

Out of print for years now AFAIK, but I've got a (not great quality, unfortunately) transcription here.

Another morning on the way to University of Limerick. Cars barely moving. Time lost in traffic.

And somehow, we have accepted this as normal.

It does not have to be. Dare to choose differently. Choose cycling. 🚲

Thanks Cork's 96fm for reporting the consultant open now on 30km/h zones across the city.

A government U-turn on default urban speed limits meant local government officials had to do a year-long analysis of every street.

Now residents will have to lobby for excluded streets to be included. 🧵
City residents urged to have their say on proposed changes to speed limits
The consultation will help identify areas where speed limits could be reduced.

If a small.child can't safely pedal along a cycle lane, it's not fit for purpose. They should ban those painted line ones; drivers assume the cyclist has their own lane and therefore doesn't need the 1.5m clearance.

Loyalty cards are a means for stores to carry out largescale data collection to track our habits and behaviours.

The GDPR says that consent must be “freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous”. Is it consent when there is an imbalance of power, as in the case of supermarket loyalty schemes?

My SIX takeaways from Tommy's "Fashtonbury" event yesterday...

1) Numbers way down on last year when they claimed "3 million!" (lol) marched (was nearer 110k in reality but these people live in Conspiracy Theory & Disinfo so whatever)

This year met police estimate ~60-70k.

attacks on rural Ireland: regulating airBnB, lowering the speed limit, reducing water pollution, banning animal sports, all drink driving laws for some reason

not attacks on rural Ireland: property hoarding, land consolidation, ecocide
Regulating airbnb being turned into another "attack on rural Ireland" shows how ridiculous and meaningless that phrase is.
Increasing the available houses so people can actually live where they're from as opposed to being priced out by landlords and holiday homes is an attack on rural Ireland 🤷‍♀️

And buses.
