UPDATE

In Germany the far-right AfD is consolidating its lead. The erosion of support for the (governing centre-right) CDU/CSU continues, opening up a poll lead of over 10% points.
Sonntagsfrage zur Bundestagswahl • INSA/BamS: AfD 29 % | CDU/CSU 18 % | GRÜNE 14 % | SPD 13 % | DIE LINKE 11 % | BSW 4 % | FDP 4 % | Sonstige 7 %

UPDATE
It's not just Total Energies, five western oil majors have windfall profits in the first half of 2026 alone of around $32 billion. That income is missing in the balance sheets of European workers and non-oil businesses. See my substack:

Governments should solve the oil majors’ “dilemma”
A windfall profit tax will do the trick

Another year has flown by at the European Trade Union Institute!

A great couple of days team-building and long-term thinking at our annual retreat, this year in beautiful Leuven - and with a surprise musical interlude thrown into the mix from our very own @andrewwatteu.bsky.social & Sigurt Vitols!

The latest Spanish polls record small gains for the socialists and large losses for the PP. Its voters appear to be peeling off to the right-wing VOX. The left/regionalist fringe is fragmented.
For Europe much is riding on whether Sanchez can once again overcome seemingly impossible odds.

But it would also deepen the already strengthening ties between the EPP and the various nationalist political groups to its right. The pro-EU centrist coalition, if not dead, would be on life-support. This would mark a Zeitenwende in EU politics and take us into uncharted waters.

In that case the S&D might well leave the informal centrist coalition backing the EU Commission under von der Leyen. That would stop the current game in which the centre-right EPP plays off parties to its left and right against each other.

The outcome of the Spanish election could prove very consequential for European politics as a whole.
If Sanchez loses power to a right-wing coalition, the centre-left will lead EU governments only in Denmark, Malta and (possibly) Sweden.

a bad choice of press secretary is a trivial matter compared to all the serious shit that has gone down.
It's just that Kathie #Zacharia performance sums up the whole horror: the stupidity, fakeness, female ideal-type, amateurishness, lies, mangling of language, sycophancy, the media collusion...
