#Boulanger's
I’ve just made a right prat of myself

At boulangerie I bought 8 chocos (I can’t bring myself to call them pain au chocolat but that’s another story)

As I was walking home I realised he’d only charged me for 6

I returned, much to boulanger’s amusement

Madame, c’est 2 gratuits

Bonne journée y’all

Now listening to Boulanger's Clairières dans le ciel recorded by Jean-Paul Fouchécourt and Alain Jacquon. One of the most beautiful and moving of all song cycles I think. An amazing composition.

There was a particular reason for this. They had played a 16-second piece by Poulenc (for Nadia Boulanger’s birthday) earlier on in the show, and two listeners contacted them to suggest the 1.13-second You Suffer. Which Petroc duly played.
Words I never thought I'd hear : "And that was Napalm Death on BBC Radio 3."

Three days after the rorchestra.bsky.social concert and I'm still buzzing about it. Searing Franck Symphony. Ellen Baumring-Gledhill's beautiful, passionate Lalo cello concerto. And the extraordinary magic of Lili Boulanger's Matin de Printemps, a whole world in 5 minutes. Bravo to all.

Lili Boulanger's death at 25 is one of the great tragedies in classical music in the 20th century. What might she have given us?

Today is Lili Boulanger’s 193rd birthday.

If I could give 5 more years of life to any composer (just thinking of their additional musical output), it would have to be her.

She died at just 24 but still wrote some of the best music of the early 20th c.

My good friend Freebird1967 introduced me to Boulanger's masterpiece yesterday. I've listened to it 3 times already. Enjoy it like I do.

So sorry I missed the performance of this tremendous CAT CIRCUS in 1888 starring "Boulanger" and "Blondin". Poor Boulanger's singed tail fur!

Oh hey it's Lili Boulanger's 133rd birthday! What a fantastically talented composer she was - one of the saddest early deaths in music IMO, she died at just 24yo. Go stuff some Lili Boulanger down your ears! Here's her older sister conducting some.

I'm sure you know Nadia Boulanger's post-show line? She'd take your hands, look into your eyes, and say, conspiratorially, "You know what I think." (I think I read this in q Charles Rosen book.)

A wonderful early evening concert yesterday by the Halle Orchestra playing Shostakovich 9th Symphony … but first the audience was blown away by the sheer magnificence of Lili Boulanger’s Psalm 130 … breathtaking! #Halle

D’un matin de printemps (Of a Spring Morning) began as a piece for violin & piano in 1917, when Boulanger’s health was already deteriorating. The orchestral version, and its much darker companion, D’un soir triste, was the last work she completed in her own hand, just 2 months before her death. 2/3

Excellent Mahler 1 at the Philharmonic tonight, with a new viola concerto by Donghoon Shin, and Lili Boulanger’s ‘D’un matin du printemps’. Tugan Sokhiev conducting. (Berlin.)
