#Charpentier's
Spending Saturday evening with Charpentier's Te Deum. Enjoying the contrast between Corboz's stirring, monumental approach and Bestion de Camboulas's energetic vibrancy, both enormously impressive.

Oct. will be crazy in FuzzyWuzzyland. On my calendar: Toronto Mendelssohn Choir sings Mozart’s Requiem mass; Canadian Opera Company does Cosi fan tutte; also La Traviata; Opera Atelier does Charpentier’s Descent of Orpheus; then off to Victoria for a week. Plus full time work, voting, and a haircut!

Now listening to recordings of Charpentier's setting of the Last Judgement, Extremum Dei judicium, by Michel Corboz and Graham O'Reilly. I don't why this excellent piece isn't played more often.

Eventually Charpentier gets Agassiz to visit him in Bex (partly because Agassiz' wife was German and a bit of a fish out of water in Swiss society, and Charpentier's wife was also German), in the summer of 1836. Everybody got along famously.

A quiet moment, made monumental.

Alexandre Charpentier’s Young Mother Breastfeeding Her Child celebrates the beauty and dignity of simple, everyday acts of tenderness.

Not to disparage other professions such as finance and marketing which have many creative people, but there is something different about scientific exploration. How many Charpentier’s, Doudna’s, Varmus’s will instead become hedge fund managers or stock meme generators?

Bill and I were neighbors in Lawrence Kansas. Not friends exactly but friendly. Drinks and dinner now and then, afternoons with cats and guns. Years after, I found the recipe for Henri “Crêpes Suzette” Charpentier’s “Eggs William S Burroughs.” Hardly more than a literary footnote, but here’s that Rx

Three? No way. There's at least 17 Genders - maybe more, with advancements in music theory.

Everything is awful (including the return of winter this week), but on Saturday, in Toronto, I'm going to be attending the Opera Atelier production of Charpentier's "David and Jonathan" (last performed at the Royal Chapel at Versailles, as pictured here, first performed in 1688).
So there's that.
