#Chekhov's
Still waiting for Chekhov’s stick to go off. This one hasn’t done anything for me except for a sequence just now aged out protagonist’s way of getting money is revealed to be descending a fleshy well to the holding cell of the god of greed and picking its pocket which is too good an idea for this

Also, if you want a masters quality study of the short story in one book, Randall Jarrell's Book of Stories is unbeatable. Kafka's "A Country Doctor," Chekhov's "Rothschilds Fiddle," as well as "Gusev," anonymous folk tale "The Red King and the Witch," Tolstoy, etc. The intro essay is essential.

Carver's "Cathedral" quite literally changed my life, but a story I think about often is Chekhov's "Gusev."
I was talking to my friend Mae today about how I wish more people cared about and read short stories. A great short story will take only twenty minutes to read but stick with you for twenty years. Wildly powerful artform!

What's a short story that fits that description for y'all?

I've taken to calling this clause added to the Planning Act as part of Bill 98 "Chekhov's Regulation" and it's hanging over everything in Ontario land use planning.

Random detail but dont we still have enuo's crystal? If im remembering right... if we do im writing that under "potential chekhov's gun"

This is the most random thought but now that I'm quitting ultimate prog unless i get a static my brain is starting to do its thing again.

his new body was born from it so I think that Chekhov’s gun has been fired. That was the price for his cooperation with her plans. And his pseudo 4th wall breaking line about the dead not coming back really should be the final nail in the coffin for Lisa

Speaking of which, time to run the other team. Maybe not the B team, but less than ideal. Of course we drop Chekhov's hint about Hojo's experiments.

Smile, you're on candid camera!

Time for some Cait-led exploration. Man, this moogle is soooo slooow.

If you see something like this at the start of a movie, you know someone is getting impaled on them at the end…

I’ve got a little gap behind a molar so I carry toothpicks in a little container all the time.

Every time I consider getting a metal one, it feels like I’m inviting a 3rd act Chekhov’s metal toothpick.

Maybe always having wooden ones means I will have an unlikely defense against vampires instead.

I definitely think if it's gonna get graphic, you have to signal that early on so that the reader's ready for it, even in a slow burn. I referred to this on a panel at ArmadilloCon as "Chekhov's Cock". 😅 Like, you gotta break the vocab seal, throw a "fuck" or some other vulgarity in early.

The show introduces a brand new blank golem in the same episode we learn Picard is dying? Gee. I wonder what's going to happen. #StarTrekPicard

Day 29 - Raising Cain (Director’s Cut) 1992

De Palma reminding us he liked the quiet parts of Psycho as well.

Always a pleasure to see John Lithgow, although he’d be a great deal more imposing if he didn’t use his Dr. Lizardo voice.

A fun bit with Chekhov’s Sundial.
