Joe Abercrombie's Red Country is kind of an unconventional Western

Just finished SGJ's Buffalo Hunter Hunter recently, though that's probably already on your radar

They make those balloons that have like a giant eye on them. We live near wine country in Western New York and they use all sorts of tricks to keep birds from eating the grapes.

Is a Muslim more or less likely to leave the religion in a western country? If you want to eradicate Islam your options are open borders or genocide . Are you genocidal? Maybe learn some better debating skills

But this one does bother me, cause Om a child of the 80s: in No Country For Old Men, which is set in 1980, there’s a Long John Silver’s with a 2000s-style sign. I remember the 70s-to-early 00s Long John Silver’s signage quite well. In Pennsylvania and Western NY, they were everywhere.
Prompts a fun question: whats the most niche historical inaccuracy in a piece of work that annoys you

Not like 'oh they were referring to the wrong king' , more 'they had the wrong king on a banknote in one scene'
Why do book characters consistently have wildly anachronistic names.

Anne Hathaway is currently playing a Colleen Hoover character who is a women in her early 40s in the 2020s named *Verity Crawford*

Other media does not do this, if this was an original film she’d be called Lucy

Rhiannon Giddens featured on #bandcamp Daily! She’s a fantastic artist and has a new solo album out. Recommended.

Did you “study”world geography at Trump U? Ukraine is currently serving as the “firewall” for western democracy & the 80 year old NATO alliance. Thanks for letting us all know that you support a murderous dictator who illegally invaded a country & murdered hundreds of thousands innocent lives🤦🏻

The United States citizens spend twice as much as any other citizen in any other western country, an average cost of $16,000 per year verses say, Germany, France and Canada at up to $8,000 per year per individual.

Howabout Australia and all western leaders butt out of Palestinians politics and focus on getting Israel held to account for a genocide stop supplying weapons and aiding a brutal illegal occupation.
Palestinians don't tell Australia how to run their country
Labor needs to abide by international law

We'll see. According to this, he is actually competing with Trump for the exact same diesel?

"with purchases of Russian fuel rising from $95 million in 2022 to $5.4 billion in 2024. New U.S. sanctions in late 2025 then cut Russia's share of Brazil's diesel imports from a peak near 60% to about 17%"
Why Won't Brazil Pick a Side on the Ukraine War?
When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Europe responded quickly. It condemned Moscow, imposed sweeping sanctions, and began sending arms to Kyiv. Brazil went only halfway. A democracy and in many ways a Western-facing country, it condemned the invasion at the United Nations but refused to join the sanctions or send weapons. Four years later, it still refuses.

It's essential that Putin understand that invading another country leads to world-wide condemnation, economic collapse and political isolation.

It's a betrayal of Western values that this hasn't happened yet or even earlier.

And an indication of American true values nowadays.

WAFR indeed!

This went to number 1 in so many countries around the world -- was the song of 1988 according to US Billboard charts!

Very basic structure, easy guitar chords, country-western guitar solo, catchy lyrics and < 4 mins long.

Film clip really leaned in to zoomin in on his ass lol

I celebrate the legacy of Lavender Country on @NoDepression.bsky.social, examining Patrick Haggerty's inestimable contribution to the world -- and the ways artists like @MyaByrne.bsky.social, Abigail Austin, and Secret Emchy Society continue to carry it forward.

have you heard about "country & western" music?
October 12, 2026 at 7:31 PM
Time is relative.

Unless that relative was a black sheep or worse with sheep. Or an estranged cousin who married their sister and lived in Govan playing bass for a country & western tribute group.

Vladimir Putin's cyberwarfare division has run perhaps the most successful campaign against western democracy in history. It's stunning how much of the last 25 years of bullshit we owe to these efforts.

Putin and his people understand that far-right fascism is a country-destabilizing weapon.
We’ve been talking about this for years.

None of these far-right movements are organic.

They're just getting more desperate as their too easy, grievance based support continues to decline. Am expecting public executions their next bid, which no 'civilised western' country would do, oh.. hold that thought.
