A big old Oregon white oak tree towers over the right side of the picture on a cloudy day, it’s gnarly branches spreading across and up to the sky and off to the right over smaller trees with yellowing and reddening leaves. The oak’s leaves are still mostly green, although it’s almost the end of October.

Street lights seem to float and low shiny parts of parked cars are just visible in the dark below the theater. In addition to being named after Hamlet’s castle, it does have the reputation of being haunted by a benevolent ghost who likes to oversee stage productions. I’ve seen quite a few movies here over the years.

One bright red leaf clings t a twig against the deep blue sky on a autumn afternoon. A couple of empty leaf stems curl from the same twig, as does a littke black “berry”-like thing. My iNaturalist app thinks this may be a Nyssa sylvatica (black Tupelo) tree, which is native to the East Coast, but has been planted here on the West Coast too.
