watching a lot of guys, instead of learning a lesson from DnD's issues just look to lancer as another forever game that they run their decades long campaigns in, thinking the Dungeons and Dragons century of humiliation must continue.

astarion book is here. this isn't how i'd start the book. i get the sinking feeling the author will try to juggle dnd's famously camp humour and horrific events, and fail in a way that may come across as tone-deaf whiplash!

please prove me wrong!

Canada's military ammunition audit finds stockpile gaps, NATO readiness shortfalls and 44% of training ammo unused.
Canada Ammunition Audit Finds Strategic Stockpile Gaps, NATO Readiness Shortfalls
_Sourced from 4 news outlets · most facts from Auditor General Karen Hogan · no points in dispute._ How we sourced this Canada’s military is carrying more training ammunition than it uses while facing significant shortages in the reserve meant for emergencies and war, a federal audit has found. **Key facts** * The audit found DND’s inventory controls needed improvement and there were significant gaps between what ammunition was required and what was available in some inventory classes. * The audit concluded Canada’s strategic ammunition stockpile for emergencies and war does not contain all the types and quantities required and has significant gaps. * Hogan said the underuse of allotted training ammunition was linked to overstated requests for regular-use ammunition and to some training activities being scaled down or cancelled. * The audit linked ammunition shortfalls to Canada being well below its target readiness level for meeting NATO commitments as of March 2026 and said it will take several years to close the gaps at the current pace of replenishment. Read the original document: Government of Canada, linked by kamumedya.com. Auditor General Karen Hogan concluded that the Department of National Defence lacked reliable inventory information and had not completed a comprehensive assessment of the ammunition it needs for regular use and for its strategic stockpile. ## Strategic stockpile has significant gaps The audit found Canada’s strategic stockpile does not contain all the types and quantities of ammunition required. Significant gaps remain between what is needed and what is available in some inventory classes. Those shortfalls were contributing to the Canadian Armed Forces being well below its target readiness level for meeting NATO commitments as of March 2026, according to the audit. It said that, at the current pace of replenishment, closing the gaps will take several years. Hogan did not publicly identify the specific ammunition in short supply, citing national security. But she said the issues found by the audit were about the Canadian Armed Forces “being best prepared when they’re called upon.” ## Regular-use training ammunition underuse The audit found the Armed Forces used an average of 56 per cent of the regular-use training ammunition allotted for exercises, deployments and testing. Hogan linked that underuse to overstated requests for regular-use ammunition and to training activities being scaled down or cancelled. “Right now, they’re overestimating what they need in that regular use and training,” Hogan told reporters. She said some excess ammunition could be used in an emergency, but not all training ammunition is lethal. National Defence did not track or explain why training activities were limited or cancelled, the audit found, although the department cited equipment problems including tanks and ships often being out of service when needed. ## Ammunition procurement delays and inventory reports The audit also identified procurement weaknesses. Regular-use ammunition took almost 19 months on average to arrive after contracts were signed, and there was a lack of consistent documentation explaining why contracts were changed to extend delivery dates. The audit found that, as of March 31, about 31 per cent of military ammunition storage depots had not completed required annual inventory reports, representing roughly $656 million in supplies. ## Government response to audit recommendations Defence Minister David McGuinty and other cabinet ministers said the government is already working on the audit’s recommendations. Their stated measures include improving ammunition data quality, strengthening governance and accountability, refining requirements planning, improving strategic stockpile management and improving oversight of supplier performance and delivery delays. “The entire auditor general report on ammunition tells us that we have progress to make, and we’re making it,” McGuinty said after the report was tabled. The federal government has allocated $9.2 billion over 13 years for strategic stockpile replenishment and released a $1.4-billion framework to expand domestic ammunition production. ## What we don't know yet * The audit did not specify which particular types of ammunition are in short supply in the strategic stockpile for national security reasons. ## How outlets covered it * **kamumedya.com** — “‘Significant Gaps’ in Combat Ammo Stockpiles for Canadian Military, Auditor General Finds”, Oct. 30, 2026. Yeh thats another lart of dnd's design i dont like: having bad design then patching the fix into one sowcific class or ancestrie. And its always bonus actions i *hate* bonus actions. They shouldnt be called that if you can only do one bonus action, it should be secondary action at least!

Fun? Fact. There are orphaned wells in Wainwright and Suffield. Decommissioning a well inside a live-fire area means getting crews and rigs onto ground that may have unexploded ordnance, on DND’s schedule and with ordnance clearance first. The OWA’s industry levy was built around ordinary sites.

I'm not trying to sound like "I thought of this stuff first", quite the opposite. These are completely obvious and banal conclusions you get from analyzing DnD's text holistically.

It truly is. They act like there’s no way without ai like they forget dnd’s been here since forever. Most excuses will be like ‘oh I can’t edit’, ‘it’s cheaper this way’ instead of learning and there’s so many free and cheap resources

In my experience the solution is no different to how we make DnD's combat interesting: you use whatever parts work and toss what doesn't. The main difference is that Draw Steel attempts to gamify things that are traditionally handled in pure RP space, such as downtime and negotiations

I'm by no means the first one to point out what % of DnD's rules are tied to combat, and what effect this has on how the game is played, including assumptions made by the GM.

Dawg some of us lived through early White-Wolf days (why waste pages with an index so useless)?
