Don’t be fooled. Hannity is merely confirming the obvious: his politics mattered more than his faith.

“restoring faith that better is possible” is maybe the most important thing in politics right now outside of imposing consequences on the bad people (and imposing consequences would help restore faith)

we have seen what cynical, “lol nothing matters” politics leads to and it leads to Donald Trump
My not-so-hot take is that what Mamdani is doing *IS* incrementalism, and the bar is so deeply in hell that a politician just doing *anything* good consistently is a total anomaly for people.

And I think for now that is good and fine, because it is restoring people’s faith that better is possible.

i think leftists who can't accomodate people of faith into their politics are really really making a profound mistake
How? You simply tell them to fuck if they are homophobic, transphobic or aren't secular. It's easy and refreshing.

As soon as your religion enters politics and policy, it is no longer faith,

It’s control.

Ignorance of Springsteen's politics aside, I'd certainly love to hear Gabe expound on his understanding of Christianity as a pro-ICE faith.

It’s always “Christian faith leaders should stay out of politics,” until faith leaders align themselves with the Religious Right, then speaking out on politics becomes a matter of “religious freedom.”

This dynamic is basically unchanged in the decades I've followed US politics. The right raises a bullshit bad-faith objection, Dems try to change policy to address it, the right just repeats the bad-faith objection, Dems try again ... forever.
So in the end, what does this article amount to? Republicans are telling the same lie about welfare that they've told for 40 years despite consistent efforts — including many led by Democrats — to restrict and police it.

And in response, Democrats should restrict and police it even more.

Just a group of impartial jurists, untainted by politics and waiting to hear all parties on a good faith basis
James Ho, Matthew J. Kacsmaryk, and 11 other right-wing federal judges write to President Shafik that Columbia has become an "incubator of bigotry" and that "absent extraordinary change" they will no longer hire graduates of Columbia—undergrad or law school—as clerks freebeacon.com/wp-content/u...

Not yelling at Dave here, but the fundamental issue is that the bedrock assumption of our country's politics is that conservatives losing faith in the system is seen as an indictment of the system, and liberals losing faith in the system is seen as an indictment of liberals.
As this site's unofficial eeyore, I can tell you: Rs see the grey hair at No Kings rallies, and the collapse of BLM, and are confident that any liberal protests will be ineffective (waving signs around) or will backfire (violence against Rs)
They're going to push us to the point where other options have to be on the table

President Carter was a man of deep faith. A Christian who was transparent about his humanity. An evangelical (before that word came to mean what it sadly connotes today) whose faith walk was genuine and inspirational. www.tennessean.com/story/news/r...
The faith of Jimmy Carter: A born-again Christian who practiced his own version of progressive evangelicalism
Carter was one of the most explicitly religious presidents, but his rise in politics came during a transformative era in American Christianity.

I do find myself wondering whether the term "fast faith," like fast food or fast fashion, actually rather nicely captures a strain of contemporary American religion that is theologically impoverished, but rich in cultural politics and lifestyle identification.

New in PN: Will Dems become the party of faith?

"It's just possible that Trump — whose appeals to a certain cohort of the religiously observant have morphed into an almost gleeful celebration of amorality — may have, entirely unintentionally, opened a door to a new kind of faith-inspired politics."
Will Democrats become the party of faith?
