Roman soldiers played a type of horn called the cornu, 10 feet long and shaped like the letter G. Archaeologists at Vindolanda, near Hadrian’s Wall, recently unearthed the mouthpiece of one!

There were African soldiers stationed on Hadrian's Wall when it was built. Some never left. They have literally been here since before England existed, but apparently their descendants are not English, according to her.

in 2023, the iconic sycamore gap tree was cut down by vandals. dozens of saplings were propagated from its seeds and planted over the uk. the stump is still alive and as of september 30, 2026, is sprouting new shoots.
