New observations reveal asteroid 1998 KY26 is just 11 metres wide and spins every 5 minutes, posing new challenges for Japan’s Hayabusa2 mission in 2031, when the spacecraft will attempt a delicate ‘kiss’ manoeuvre, briefly touching the asteroid’s surface to collect data without landing.
