For my author firends, I thought it would be interesting to share my experience as a judge for ICFA's Crawford Award, an award for first fantasy works:
First of all, works for the 2027 award can still be submitted by December. So far, there are 60+ books that have been submitted!

And yeah, quite a lot is usually going on at most in person cons (ICFA's "let's just have drinks by the pool" tends to be an exception) so I totally get the "yeah, that's more than I want to deal with" feeling. Makes a lot of sense.
