Dawn on the shores of the city of Kar'cozha. A neonate reaches the shore, ready to receive insight through a name.

#art #warcraft #homebrew #comic #kar'cozha
Panel 1. A man descends a cliff towards two others on the shore of a sunlit beach. 2. A small, diminutive creature - the infant of their species, crawls along the sand, out from the sea. 3. A pair of cloven, clawed hands gently lift the creature from the sand. A glowing trail of light begins to emit from the creature's spine. 4. A hooded man with teal skin and tendrils for hair sings to the creature in his palms. He is chanting a sacred prayer, giving his name and granting the small creature its own. Upon receiving its name, the creature's eyes open wide as it is granted insight. It peacefully sits in the man's hands, looking out towards the sunrise. 5. The neonate is then handed towards an excited woman, overjoyed to meet her new charge. In the background is the man from the first panel, descending the staircase. 6. The woman takes the neonate into her hands and joyfully cradles it into her face.

But he wasn't banished back to the void! He was allowed to stay on... One condition.

Student and Teacher

#art #warcraft #homebrew #comic #kar'cozha
1. A woman walks down the beach and is greeted by a young man with his arm in a sling. 2. The woman, far too preoccupied with something in her arms ignores the man. He looks back as she walks away. 3. The man jabs his thumb behind him, raising a brow in confused amusement. He asks "Was that Thalua just now?" bemused by her presence. In the box below, he is introduced as A'lessandi, Junior Chorister of Kar'cozha. 4. The man looks across the beach to who he is talking to. A hooded man, looking out to see. It takes him a moment to answer, as he's deep in thought. 5. A close up of the man's face is revealed as he turns to face the acolyte. An older gentleman with a glowing gold underbelly. In the box below, he is introduced as "I'lenea, Choir Master and Designator of Names" He speaks "Indeed, she decided to finally take on a--" 6 He is interrupted upon seeing A'lessandi's broken arm, points at it and shouts: "By Hastua! Hastua/Kar'cozha could've feasibly have existed in this setting.

It absolutely could have. I GET TO BE SLUGGE FROM SPACE <3

If Kar'cozha wasn't essentially an ocean with tiny islands floating in orbit, they probably would've evolved to be closer in height to a human's natural range.

Several images of a tiny slug like creature living out its first days on land, being cared for by its adoptive parent and being frightened of other slugs. It sleeps in a bowl, where it is hydrated on the regular. When it is woken up for its breakfast, it takes its frustrations out on its caregiver, drawing orange blood and some very loud expletives. After he leaves to bandage his finger, he returns to pick the creature up with a grumble and his claws tucked in to prevent another bite. The caregiver holds the creature and lectures it on not biting people, where it stares up with a vacant expression on its face. It is then treated to a slab of meat for its breakfast- very content and oblivious to the destruction it caused.

Possibly the most important building in lost Kar'cozha- second only to the chantry hall. The Taemae (Bath-house) ... or more like the bath district. It was huge.

#art #warcraft #homebrew #wowrp #worldbuilding #kar'cozha
A CENSORED (bluesky, there's nothing there, relax...) image of two Alrae in a bath-house. The darker one, A'lessandi is using a cloth to wipe down his arm as he stands in the pool, looking over his shoulder and smiling at his companion. The pale, lavender Alrae, Yelanua sits on the edge of the pool, smiling over to him as she leans back on one hand. She is dipping one toe into the pool while they talk over the day's events. Alrae need water. They breathe through their skin. They had to maintain good hygiene out of water to keep their pores open and stay healthy. The ocean is a dangerous place and so they built large structures to better facilitate their need to maintain hygiene and hydration. There were outdoor tamae on the beaches along the countryside, but they were not considered the safest of places to be- what with the giant lobstrok that could come and attack on a semi-regular basis. While the baths were the central feature of the tamae, there were many facilities within these structures. Gyms, canteens, even some chantry halls for festivals. The Tamae was a massive structure, practically an indoor district. The pools were kept clean by staff and through the use of petal slugs, which were used as living pool cleaners- and the water ran through the structure back to the sea, and as the Alrae were a unisex species- only learning the concept of gender from the more binary coded titans, there was no separation. Bathing was a communal practice. Visiting a tamae was a long process- and as such it was beneficial to simply conduct many aspects of society within its walls. It was one of the few places where social status did not matter. There was a strict code of conduct within the halls of these spaces, both to maintain civility and hygiene. Choristers would bathe and discuss matters with dancers, fishermen would play games in the gymnasiums with politicians. Once their leisure was over, it was back to work and conflict.

Zin'ye - The Sallow Mark

#art #warcraft #homebrew #comic #kar'cozha
Panel 1: I'lenea draws a symbol in the air, using the essence billowing from his chest as the ink to his scrying. He is using his peoples' power over names and sigils to locate the name of the deceased. Panel 2: A large spread on the backdrop of the cosmic wheel. In the center in a pool of orange blood is a skeleton curled into a half foetal position. The blood stretches across the spheres of the cosmic wheel like branching neurons. The blood trail ends down to I'lenea, his face is darkened under his hood and in its place is the sallow mark of Hastua- depicting two individuals bound by one skewering sign. "We are woven into this world through flesh. And bound to a tapestry of synapses and signifiers. Only severed... When we join our sundered father." Panel 3: A brass titan watcher is in the midst of battle with a beast with a multitude of black and gold tentacles. The watcher brings his trident down into the creature's body, spilling glowing blood in a violent burst.

All right. Still a work in progress, but I got enough to actually organise into tags. At least when it comes to names!

PART ONE (of... well, this thread!)

#art #worldbuilding #homebrew #Kar'cozha #wowRP
The Cosmological Chart of the Kar'cozhan people is pictured to the left. It details the elements of the world. Positive forces on top, negative forces below, elements to the right and left, with reality in the center. Born of Vehemence The people of the city of Kar’cozha believed that the Light and the Void were the fundamental blocks of creation. The conflict of the two forces birthed reality in a great collide. From that collision, they birthed twins- each twin being in conflict with the others’ and birthed forces in kind. This act filled reality with its splendid vibrance. When the vehemence stilled, Hastua came to be. A being whose lively form and chaotic hunger rose from the depths of the void. There it devoured ceaselessly until it grew large enough to breach a surface- what became the Embryonic Sea. There, on a fractured horizon, it gazed to a sky filled with radiance. From spying the skies above, it saw the death of stars, and understood the order of their brilliance. The salt of wisdom was born from its rapturous tears. Those tears filled the sea beneath it, and from those tears came new life who would follow their creator’s path and seek tandem with the two forces. -- Hastua’s Carcass Despite the Kar’cozhan aptitude for memory, there is a blank space in every individual. What exactly was and what became of Hastua. The results were known, for its very corpse shaped the island of which the city is founded. The first funerary mosaic was a temple made from its gleaming bones. What ended Hastua and why remains a mystery, likely one never to be solved since the planet was scoured clean an untold age ago. However, while the world no longer exists, the world was visited numerous times by the Titans’ creations- notorious record keepers, and despite their seemingly ordered existence, have been instrumental agents of change on immeasurable worlds. An overview of the Kar'cozhan lifecycle. They are an amphibious race, hatched from eggs adrift at sea. Once hatched, they eat anything they can get their tiny mouths around (including eachother). Later on, they begin to develop more land based features and head for shore, where an awaiting elder will raise them to the bipedal adult life stage. The Wheel The Basis of Runes. Typically, the beginning of any rune will lead towards the center at least once to denote the object’s place in reality. Conflict in Cosmology (Vertical) How it all relates to how that energy enters reality. The most obvious example being the conflict of Light and the Void. Everything in reality started with the conflict of the void and light. Conflict in Reality (Horizontal) The way those forces act within reality, such as water snuffing out fire. Order conflicts with Death in reality, bringing control over death, through ritual and quite literal control (Necromancy) Despite being seen as a dark practice, the art has very little to do with the void in the eyes of the Kar’cozhan people. Rather, magic is conjured through the sphere you pull it from. Life conflicts with Chaos within reality. It reflects the nature of struggle to continue to perpetuate itself. In relation to the cosmos, Life conflicts with order, it represents stasis, but also the far more understandable patterns in nature. Life and Death conflict, but join together in reality, because one can not fundamentally be without the other. There is no concept of existence if it never existed in the first place. Each one of the six forces can not bring about existence as we know it if even one of them was absent. The four elements are the youngest forces, having been split off from reality when it was created, encompassing not only the forces they sit between, but a small slither from every other governing force in reality. The best examples are water and fire. To the Kar’cozhan people, these forces are primarily attuned to the void, as their people were born in the Embryonic sea. A dark ocean of chaotic, primordial life, spawned from fiery vents. But these also represent how life springs from fire, but also brings death. How water may spring forth life, but brings with it the coldness of death and the order (insight) their people sought by reaching for the surface. “Overwriting”. To give someone a shared name is a grave insult in Alrae culture, as it’s essentially seen as overwriting the previous person’s entire existence from the collective memory. Thankfully this was easily avoided by simply changing the sound or providing a new context to the symbol, like many of their words. For Example: A’lessandi = Born from the sea, with a belly of fire, gazes the stars for guidance. And Jussenm’na = From the abyss, scalding blood, seeks the pale suns’ tutelage. However, the act of overwriting is not a sin. Far from it. Names and their meanings changed hands regularly in Kar’cozhan society. Many Alrae- especially those who worked closer to the void, often crafted additional names and symbols to safeguard themselves from outside forces. It was not uncommon for one person to have multiple crafted names to fit different roles in their day to day lives. If for any reason an Alrae wished to change their primary name or its meaning, they often would employ the assistance of a chorister to alter the collective memory. After all, signifiers change. What matters is the identity bound to it and how it is to be remembered. This act would strike the original name from the collective, but not the person and who they are. Choristers were specifically trained to change, strike and alter names for the benefit of society- and all therein. The only thing was that the names had to be unique, so not to overwrite the existence of someone else. Shared names weren’t seen as a problem when it came to interacting with other races. Likely because they rarely encountered enough humanoids with the exact same first and last names to really form an opinion. If they did, they likely would just seek out an additional signifier for the individual to add to the collective, or ask if there are any other names ascribed to the person. (like a middle name, or a title) Farabu once believed that ‘Junior’ and ‘Senior’ were just surnames on top of surnames.
