What if some of #LongCOVID’s answers are hiding in our tissues?

Prof Michael Peluso explains why he's studying tissue samples to uncover signals that blood tests may miss.

Antiviral mRNA therapies target viral proteases to induce lytic cell death, a precise mechanistic approach. Yet, LongCOVID’s etiology isn’t fully understood; efficacy here remains speculative. Watch the Phase I data for clinical relevance, not just lab success.

“We are not treating [Long COVID] with as much seriousness as we should be treating it. And when that doesn’t happen, then people don’t open up.”

Infection control and public health leaders have painted themselves into a corner - they came out and made confidently wrong statements in 2020, and the story of the pandemic ever since has been them gambling double-or-nothing that it will go away, #longCOVID's not real, doesn't affect kids, etc.

📌 🧵 on how COVID's general presentation contributes to our continued disregard for its effects on public health. (I'll add that LongCOVID's main symptom being crippling fatigue also contributes to this--invisible disabilities trigger hostility more often than compassion) 👇🏽
1. I've said exactly this for quite some time. Expanding on Adrian's @sillyputty78.bsky.social point on X / Twitter here, Covid-19 has three distinct characteristics as a disease that enables it to be denied at a societal level.
