#NASAWebb's latest discovery? A tiny new moon orbiting Uranus.

This newly discovered satellite is very small—six miles (9.6 kms) in diameter—and orbits 35,000 miles (56,000 kms) from the center of Uranus. 🔭 🧪

With #NASAWebb’s infrared sensitivity, astronomers can parse exoplanet atmospheres in great detail, leading to new insights. For example, Webb’s detection of carbon dioxide in system HR 8799’s planets suggests these worlds formed similarly to Jupiter and Saturn. 🔭 🧪

To celebrate #NASAWebb's third anniversary of science observations this month, STScI staff worked on an art project. Based off Webb's primary mirrors, 18 hexagons were decorated with galaxies, nebulas and planets observed by Webb.

#NASAWebb’s near-infrared observation of M82 is the most recent addition to overall data on this starburst galaxy. Hubble is one observatory that has previously looked at M82, detailing the gas and dust structure seen in visible light.

Stars form in super-cold clouds of gas and dust. Gas clumps collide, and build mass, eventually collapsing to form stars.

#NASAWebb’s view of the Serpens Nebula shows a dense cluster of newly forming stars that is about 100,000 years old.
