How desperate and honestly distasteful of him. Was he trying to appeal to the hard core QC separatists (that small core that are actually hateful toward Canada) ?

I also wonder if PSPP realizes that getting sovereingty-associationists on board was a major prerequisite for holding the 1995 referendum, and that the failure of said referendum is likely due to Parizeau's claim that it would secretly force total independence

The paradox with that was it was so openly crass and embarrassing for liberal PQistes that it accelerated Parizeau's departure and forced them into a more conciliatory path after losing 1995.

Do you remember Jacques Parizeau's (PQ premier of that time) comment, "you people and money", after the last referendum ? Allophones like myself do. Yes keep your language and culture but don't restrict my charter rights while doing so. It always been about more than language and culture.

You're right, but what he means is that immigration should be massively curtailed. Look up Jacques Parizeau's 1995 statement that "money and the ethnic vote" won the "Yes" side of the Québec sovereignty vote. Poilievre is following a similar sentiment.

Conservatives are developing their own "stab in the back" theory of their election loss. Like Jacques Parizeau's "money and the ethnic vote", the Conservatives are blaming Ontario and older voters. They will not be agents of unity, any time soon.
