Final results now prob tomorrow. If Sarah Wagenknecht's party gets in, everything will be much more difficult.
But: There will be a centrist democratic government in Berlin.

The overall tone tonight was reassuringly calm, serious and civilised. So much for the glass half full.

It’s quite telling that the only party willing to cooperate with the AfD is Sahra Wagenknecht’s BSW (short for Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht). These political opposites disagree on virtually every domestic issue, but they have one thing in common: both love russia.

Wagenknecht’s BSW fails to enter parliament by a whisker while her old party die Linke, on a new, clear leftwing progressive platform, gets in on their best result since 2009. Quite a story and devastating for Wagenknecht who is dammed to political irrelevance.

A Linke comeback would indicate that Sahra Wagenknecht's decision to leave and found her own movement is the best thing that ever happened to the party

3) Wagenknecht's gambit to create a new party to reclaim the wayward far right voting proletariat by demagoging on migration has probably failed to get into the federal parliament in spite of some regional progress in the East. The Volk did not long for a more redistributionist version of the AfD.

let me put it in words he’ll understand:

Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht’s failure and the comparable success of Die Linke shows that successful left-wing populist movements must shed the lifestyle obsessions of strange minorities: like anti-trans activists, racists and so-called “anti-woke” elites. 😉
the “atrocious analysis” is to pretend that Die Linke’s relentless focus on economic issues involved discarding a single piece of what Bhaskar would sneeringly call “woke”

What the BSW does depends on Wagenknecht's vibes

Good piece in which @sarahwagner.bsky.social draws important lesson on “left conservatism” from the German case.
Selling margarine as butter: the failure of Sahra Wagenknecht’s BSW and the pitfalls of “left conservatism”
Political parties usually move slowly—adjusting across election cycles, not within months. But in Germany, Sahra Wagenknecht’s new party launched in January 2024 – Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht - Für Vern...

Seat distribution based on one of the two exit polls by national broadcasters (putting Sahra Wagenknecht’s left-conservative BSW just short of 5% hurdle, which could prove decisive to final numbers).

In Jacobin, Julia Damphouse observes that losing their "anti-woke" faction helped Die Linke regain its footing as a straightforwardly left party. That's encouraging! Perhaps something similar could be possible in the US. Maybe even at certain left-wing magazines. jacobin.com/2025/02/germ...

And as a bonus, Sahra Wagenknecht's redfash splinter group is in danger of not making the 5% threshold for Bundestag inclusion.

What does the failure of Sahra Wagenknecht’s BSW party in Germany tell us about the potential and pitfalls of a “left-wing conservatism”?

Sarah Wagner (@sarahwagner.bsky.social) explains in a new piece for Renewal:

Gregor Gysi, one of Left’s “silver haired” trio of viable constituency candidates (who helped make it plausible - as parties that win 3 constituencies override 5% hurdle), attributes party success to its new-found unity. Subtext: Wagenknecht’s breakaway made Left stronger.

❗️In Saxony-Anhalt, Sahra Wagenknecht’s BSW party, if it enters the state parliament, plans as its first initiative together with the AfD to oppose further military aid to Ukraine and demand that the state government block “billion-euro” deliveries via the Bundesrat.

One of the biggest winners of this election are the Linke, who benefited from charismatic leadership of Heidi Reichinnek (one to watch) in response to Merz's hard right manoeuvres and the ability to focus on core themes rather than Wagenknecht's disruption

Sarah Wagenknecht‘s Botschaft ist: Wenn ihr meiner Interpretation der Welt folgt, dann braucht ihr euch auch nicht zu verändern.
June 4, 2024 at 6:20 AM
For the Linke, it turns out that Sahra Wagenknecht's defection to found a BSW project that looks very shaky was a blessing rather than a curse. Even if she just squeaks into the Bundestag, Wagenknecht proved more media phenomenon than a serious politician

Not to mention the fact a former faction of die Linke is basically a far-right party now (Sarah Wagenknecht's redbrown ghouls)

Just a few weeks ago, we were able to reveal how the Medvedchuk network also wooed members of Sahra Wagenknecht's BSW party and helped them on a trip to Moscow to meet Russian officials. Together, they spent an evening at the Bolshoi Theater.

These MPs also meet with Chinese officials.

A pro-putin party is planning to block aid to Ukraine in Germany
Sahra Wagenknecht's BSW wants to stop military and financial aid to Ukraine via the Bundesrat
In Saxony-Anhalt, BSW is ready to vote for this together with the pro-russian AfD, counting on its votes for a majority
Absolute scumbags🤮🤢
