“Personal glorification, overweening pride, consuming ambition, intolerant smugness, money madness, refusal to admit mistakes, self-satisfaction, lazy complacency – these are the garden variety of ills which so often beset movements as well as individuals.”

Wish I could share Polly Toynbee’s breathless enthusiasm and optimism about Burnham. His social care proposals are good and I absolutely want my scepticism about his ability to drive them through to be wrong.
Burnham has a battle plan, with social care the flagship. Risks lie ahead, but Labour now travels in hope | Polly Toynbee
Here in Liverpool, the PM’s ambition for the party – and the country – is evident. There should be no complacency, but also no fear, says Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee

Andy Burnham’s “Hope again” era is off to a promising start. We are all here for rolling back Thatcherism. But he’d do well to add Higher Education, to his list of sectors to rescue from the neoliberal abyss.

THE GUARDIAN: Andy Burnham’s hopeful Labour agenda is gathering momentum, with social care as its defining test. But thin leads, Reform’s threat and looming fiscal pressures mean this revival is no time for complacency.

Here in Liverpool, the PM’s ambition for the party – and the country – is evident. There should be no complacency, but also no fear His ambition is big enough to see from space as he promises the “ biggest change to Britain in 40 years ”. Andy Burnham pledges what no prime minister until now has dared to, breaking the long spell of Thatcherism. Her sham monopoly markets in public services have crashed. The chancellor, John Healey, promises a “new age of industrialisation ”, breaking with her era of industrial desertification. The social care system she blew into disconnected privatised fragments will become a national care service. Something new is waiting to be born. Things happen fast. Only a year ago, the Labour party was on its knees in despair, thunderstruck to find Nigel Farage ruling the roost so soon after its landslide win, with Reform UK 12 percentage points ahead of Labour’s dismal 22%. Farage was the most popular leader, with a 30% favourability rating, compared with Keir S

Absolute state of this fule.

"It is madness, delusion, a slow but steady economic, social and cultural hara-kiri. The only answer is to become an independent Florida without the sunshine, a Texas without the chicken-fried steaks."

God,

Thank You for the woman I'm becoming.

Give me peace without complacency, ambition without anxiety, and success without losing myself.

Teach me to recognize what deserves my energy and what deserves my NO.

Let what I'm building bring both PROVISION and PEACE.

Amen.

In theory, communism would make a country strong, where everyone is working for the development of the nation as a whole. However the fact that the system goes against human nature (greed, ambition, complacency, corruption...) is the reason why it has failed in so many ways.

It's easy to say "better than nothing," but that is feedback working against decisions of more significant infrastructure in future projects because it conveys complacency with their low-ambition solutions

Probably because there’s intent and ambition but real issues with scale and integration, which is what makes the capability real, but go ahead with self flatter and complacency. I intent to be dissatisfied with progress until Russia folds, completely

A new report asks the government to “adopt a ‘reuse first’ approach to unlock up to 670,000 new homes”… instead of one that “reveals a deep complacency, is devoid of ambition, and shows a complete lack of imagination.”
Protecting built heritage: MPs call for ‘reuse first’ mindset to safeguard historic buildings and help hit new homes goal - Committees - UK Parliament
Nearly half of the government’s 1.5million home building target could be met by giving a new lease of life to historic buildings currently lying vacant or under-used, MPs say today.
