In Toronto there’s lots of English pubs, Scottish bars, a few Irish places but they seem mostly captured by BIG PUB Who all have generic menus but probably cheap cocktails & dynamite Irish nachos

Same in the UK. Also we were legally allowed to be denied service in bars and pubs and it was common to be required to have a man buy your drink for you, til the 80s. It was only in the 90s that rape in marriage was recognised by law. It's wild how recent all this was

Centurian is a lovely building but my north east England choice would have been the Left Luggage Room at Monkseaton Metro Station although, admittedly, non-local Guardian readers aren’t as likely to be passing through Whitley Bay.
