@RealGDT's Pan's Labyrinth hits very differently when you're in a country (U.S. for me) sliding at lightspeed into fascist authoritarianism. Ofelia's fairy tale helps her survive fascist horror. GDT's fairy tale did the same for me.

Like most fresh rewatches of beloved movies in 4K OLED, watching Pan's Labyrinth was a mind-blowing, eye-opening experience. This time around, two things hit me like a ton of bricks: how Del Toro weaves fairy tale and fascist horror without letting either dominate the other, and how much more urgent Captain Vidal's brutal authoritarianism feels now that the U.S. is barreling toward a similar nightmare on a high-speed train. The story is three fairy tale quests that mirror the rot happening around Ofelia. She crawls inside a dying tree to get a key; Spain under fascism is sick and festering,

I know it's only Jan 16, but @ArrowFilmsVideo's release of @RealGDT's #CrimsonPeak is a definite front runner to be included on any "Best of Blu-ray" list at the end of the year. This limited edition box is frankly incredible. Fans of the director need to grab this immediately.

Just watched @RealGDT's #PinocchioMovie and I swear it has to be del Toro's pièce de résistance in stop-motion animation. I was left in awe, shock, fear, and tears as del Toro's touch beautifully shapes this new, galvanizing retelling of the classic children's story.
