Oof! That's an all too plausible and worrying point – the University (or its HR managers and their immediate bosses) know full well that their case is dubious, but since they can draw out proceedings over months and years, in the hope that academics burn out and give up, it's part of the plan.

I remember, in a lecture on categorisation, alluding to a grotesque racial caricature of one of the Williams sisters - this at latest in 2019 – and being unsure what proportion of the class got it. The Williamses have come back into the public eye recently, but not I think to a racist reception?
