Love this idea, a great way to visualize how far we scroll
IMO the absolute bare minimum of social media regulation should involve platforms telling you exactly how long you've been scrolling, e.g. "you are 96 videos into your feed"

or, using the length of a CVS receipt as a proxy! this was the idea behind a thought experiment I made a few months ago
What If TikTok Had A Paper Trail?
A thought experiment for infinite feeds on physical media.

LLMs are going to fundamentally change what scholarship is. Pumping out true propositions used to be a viable career. Now much of that can be offloaded, leaving scholars the tasks of understanding, synthesizing, and deciding what is valuable. Goes for math, philosophy, parts of physics.
I find the view that philosophy is supposed to just pump out the maximum number of true propositions (and that LLMs can help with this) completely anathema. This is a humanistic field where we engage in collective inquiry together. LLMs destroy the collective trust at the base of that

Thoughtful piece: "Upon reflection, I've come to believe that quality software is not about how many features something has or how quickly it is built but rather how cared for it is by the designers, developers, and product people who work on it."
"There's an ineffable aspect to my favorite pieces of software where I don't think of it is as feature matrix but rather as an interface made by a human for humans that's a joy to use. And when you build software with AI, it leads to worse software."

I'm done using AI
Why I'm stopping using AI for coding (and anything else) after using it earnestly for a year and coming to understand the harms it causes on personal, societal, and environmental levels.
