Law nerd, policy wonk, housing tragic, politics shitposter

Last political constitutionalist left in NZ
I am hugely cynical about the crown law review, but i also once got a 10 page plus bit of advice that backended the advice. I wanted two paras saying, first, "yes / no" and then how to do that

So, unfortunately, I must agree with culling the org

lol hooton's editorials are more savage about luxo than anything anyone directly in politics could ever do

Editorial: National has one last chance to re-consider leadership before election
EDITORIAL: National MPs have an obligation to their party and its supporters to assure themselves Christopher Luxon is the best of their number to defeat Chris Hipkins again

Stancil is actually so good

Everywhere we find doomer slopulist nonsense. People won't believe things used to be worse, people poorer, progress made.
14k likes for a kid from the richest young generation in history screaming NO ONE HAS ANY MONEY, hundreds of people replying that this is the future of politics.

You guys are authoring the destruction of progressivism and you're too amped up on cheap TikTok thrills to see it.
this is a masterpiece

I wouldn't have thought that Australian media was worth funding, in the main

Why is luxon so much worse at politics than his coalition partners?
April 22, 2026 at 2:14 AM
if you lean right, and are generally qualified, you're probably better off fighting for an ACT list spot than a Nat electorate

Nats only care about electorates. ACT can pick from the list, with more flexibility and prioritize overall coherence. Plus they need more good candidates

both goldsmith and bishop have had haircuts. Looking fresh

wait I drunkenly explained 9/11 to a child this weekend
April 19, 2026 at 12:04 PM
did anyone ever write well when doing the "punctuation and upper case are colonialist" thing? Bell hooks?
April 19, 2026 at 4:15 AM
At the woke café listening to a podcast about, I guess, accounting while waiting a latte. Nice view too
April 18, 2026 at 12:05 AM
After a lengthy chat with the new meta llm, which frankly isnt amazing, it reckons luxon is gonna get rolled

Which i already thought anyway, and I did tell it what to think, but I'll take it

There's no hope. Olivia Rodrigo drops a love song referencing just like heaven, and people online compare it to dont delete the kisses because there are some spoken word verses. Idk man
April 17, 2026 at 12:57 PM
My prediction is that luxon goes. If its orderly he probably passes to Willis as heir; if its hostile, probably Bishop just for the scrap

TOP basically needs to pull 5% fairly broadly and evenly from labour, greens, nats, act and nzf and i don't know if they've got the provocative, technocrat, contrarian scope to do that
April 17, 2026 at 12:45 AM
spill is on, luxo might be out. For like the 3rd time in 5 months, but then he really is dreadful
April 16, 2026 at 11:53 PM
I thought geese were overhyped but I won't stand for them being overhated. They probably are a plant but they're alright

I am generally in favour of using LLMs for legal services. But it is quite funny that one of the loudest barristers about LLMs on LinkedIn in NZ just got absolutely thumped by a fairly legally courageous claim
April 16, 2026 at 3:24 AM
I broadly and increasingly see the sense of a statute of limitation for criminal offences
April 16, 2026 at 2:40 AM
I broadly think WFH is a bad idea for any workplace doing serious work but now that i have my own place I do see the appeal

Man eating well and sleeping full nights is fairly good for you ay

free fares feel good but are an incredibly expensive way to deal with a low priority issue for PT use. To the extent people are price sensitive, increases in car use costs matter more than PT pricing (which is wild)

Victoria has made public transport free – NSW hasn’t. Has there been any difference in uptake?
Public transport access, travel time and familiarity with the network all play a role in how many people switch away from driving.

Moana pasifika were always going to have an uphill battle and once they worked out that playing in the islands wasn't viable, it was already over

More people are materially well off than ever

Food delivery went from niche and expensive to super common; housing has gotten worse and health costs, but many of those complaining don't understand Baumol or aren't YIMBYs; Americans complain about clothes quality then use their dryers constantly

There Are many people who are dumb and have bad takes on this bit of the internet and they love turning their replies off . Just get a blog. A diary.

I didn't realise the sun of all papers is doing surprisingly detailed pro Ukraine analysis videos

I'll take it, grand coalition against putin
