So, I wrote this book, and I’m pretty proud of it. It’s an interactive horror story called Hare-Raising Summer. It’s a little creepy, a little scary, a little cheesy, and hopefully a lot of fun. I hope you’ll check it because I totally want to write more of them.

Always fun to participate in these, thank you.

Lock the Last Door is pretty strictly historic cosmic horror. A tale of an abandoned house, a trans PI, and a mob boss that worships eldritch gods. In other words: Cthulhu Mythos noir, if you enjoy that.

Thanks Mary! #HorrorWritersChat if all this historical horror talk has you in the mood for some, try "The Pure World Comes." It's the story of a maid in Victorian England who goes to work for a mad scientist. And it oozes Victoriana!

Poltergeist with all the modern tech. Imagine being sucked into an Alexa and you hear that little girl's voice? Your Alexa just starts saying, "Mommy, I can't hear you, Mommy!" *shudders*
Or maybe Pazuzu as an influencer. Captain Howdy's make-up game is on point.

Oh, this is a fun one! Hmmm...how about The Grudge in Meiji Restoration Japan? You would have a rapidly modernizing Japan, as well as numerous foreigners, coming across this curse and falling prey to it despite their "modern sensibilities" and whatnot.
Ooh, somebody make that!

Scream in Victorian London... maybe written as a Sherlock Holmes type mystery, but with more gore as befitting a slasher. Add a gothic twist with a governess being the one menaced by the masked killer perhaps, in a grand old estate?

Oh this is DANGEROUS. Dracula in the Wild West. Frankenstein Wild West. SAW in the Wild West.

I think every horror IP would be well served placed in an Old West setting. You can't prove that it COULDN'T.

Also, I call dibs on all of these. Just, you know, in case.

Interesting question. Hmm... What if Frankenstein were a Western? The Monster riding into towns searching for his creator. A chase across the desert. Frankenstein pinned down by a posse. Conversation in a jail cell. Sand instead of snow.

#HorrorWritersChat off the top of my head, but it would be fun to see Chucky in a puritanical US setting. Probably be made of cloth and still have the possessed by a serial killer angle, but I think adding a layer of the time period’s “stop the lies, you’re demonic, child!” would be interesting.

#HorrorWritersChat over the course of writing a bunch of (mostly unfinished) short stories, I’ve explored some of things that have scared/haunted me over the years. Think car “stuff” is always a hard thing for me and becomes situations in my stories from time to time.
Making it personal.

Q3: #HorrorWritersChat - In what ways has your own history (past) impacted or inspired your horror writing?

Examples: giving a character your childhood trauma, reimagining an experience with a different ending.

Depends on the story. Sometimes much of their past doesn't matter, but sometimes their past is what defines them.

I have an unpublished story about an old detective who stumbled onto some cult stuff when he was younger. That experience ended up defining the rest of his life

For me, horror is ALL about the past. Things we've neglected and forgotten, hidden secrets, echoes of past regrets. While I do enjoy some "fear of what's coming" horror, as a historian, there's just so much to mine in history. We all live atop a graveyard of tragedy and horror. #HorrorWritersChat

It really depends. I don’t do extensive backstories for my characters or anything like that. Most of the time, I think I just try to provide enough context for their actions, if that makes sense.
