With little formal education, Bate became a fossil hunter and one of the first women employed by the Natural History Museum. Now, more than a century later, her remarkable contribution to palaeontology has been recognised with a national blue plaque.

I'm enjoying the buzz around the #eclipse. It's so rare that we see entire peoples come together to stand in awe of the universe (even though, I will say at least from London, the view was not like 1999!). Have to wait until 2090 for the next total one!

A further 2 care homes owned by Blue Ribbon Healthcare Group have had their quality ratings suspended by the CQC.

It comes after we uncovered multiple allegations of abuse and neglect at the care company. 4 Blue Ribbon homes are now under investigation.

Jeanne Gibson, beloved “Rosie the Riveter,” passed away on July 29, 2026 at 100. Gibson became a welder at Todd Pacific Shipyards in Seattle, helping build destroyers for the Allied war effort during WWII.

Gibson helped pave the way for millions of women who stepped into critical wartime roles.

A disabled pregnant woman and her child were left in an unsuitable B&B by Ealing for over a year in breach of the law. The £6,150 compensation package is paltry given the harm caused, and unlikely to prevent councils repeating such failures in future.
