This is an excellent thread and well worth a read but if you want my tl;dr of his review of the book it’s this: the Emperor is in the nip.
Picked up a copy of "Hyperpolitics" on a whim after seeing it promoted all over the place and I can only conclude that Verso have an amazing marketing department because there's not much substance here and the evidence base is weak.

Anyone making millions, never mind billions, on crypto is, in the most generous interpretation, simply gambling. That is not, generally, regarded as pro-social. More likely, those not explicitly laundering money are involved in Ponzi schemes, illegal market manipulation, and insider trading.

I’m older than most of the Cabinet so unlike them I remember the Tories twice introducing museum charges and Labour twice removing them. It would be a scandal if this government reversed this.
Great piece this. For the life of me, I don’t know how anyone who works in the museums and galleries sector could walk around a paid exhibition at the Tate, then walk around say, Moma or the Pompidou and not realise that “charging visitors” is not going to unlock more money:

The main point of crypto is to enable illegality. That western governments have spent a decade instead saying ‘oh shiny, shiny’ is not a reason to not now break the spell and act against it.

It’s hard to articulate my theory without sounding a wee bit racist but I do think it’s objectively true in my view - Kemi says all this stuff about ‘I was only 10 at the time so it’s nothing to do with me’ etc because she wasn’t living here and didn’t absorb the culture.
