I got my first physical mail delivery and email this week, and I love. The fact that I almost missed both because most email/mail I get is spam/junk made the double take and delight at it being a thing I wanted all the better.

Netflix is thinking of doing "always on" channels (i.e. TV) which means they'll then do some form of "television playing videos of music" which means they'll then speedrun "recording industry are bastards" followed by "put reality shows on the channel playing videos of music" followed by "cancel it"

been talking to current and former employees of microsoft-owned studios all day, and the prognosis is grim: zenimax, bethesda, obsidian, id, and activision have all taken big hits, while blizzard seemingly remains safe... for now. but how long that, or anything, lasts is anyone's guess

@adrishaw.bsky.social is looking for help tracking down the bathhouse-inspired 1983 game VAPOR PALACE.

Published by BANANASOFT (yes you read that right)
Released for the Timex 1000, TRS80 III, Apple II and IBM PC

can anyone help, game history fam?

The easy search turfs out pretty quick, even though VAPOR PALACE is such a unique paring of words. I found 6 issues of Gay Community News have this ad, which implies, at least, it was probably selling a handful of copies. If this gets found, it's the new "oldest LGBTQ" videogame.

I could only find one citation so far - this ad in Gay Community News, 1983.

OK, let's start the search.

Adrienne Shaw is on the lookout for two titles of early LGBTQ software that predate Caper in the Castro. One is called VAPOR PALACE. The other features Tom of Finland art but has no discovered name yet. The search is on - if you know more details or... have a copy? ping.

If you are headed to #ica26 I have discovered in the conference app that only one of my panels lists me when you search by "speaker". The second panel is later that same day at 3pm. I'm moderating, but the panelists aren't showing up under speakers in the app either (they do in the online program).

Today's discussion is about what "culture" even means and what it means to study it

So we're reading @adrishaw.bsky.social's "Video games as cultural studies other"

Early on she asks: "Why is it so hard for us to think about video games as part of popular media culture more broadly?"
