NEW VIDEO ALERT! Today on Bar Cart Bookshelf we're talking about STARSTRUCK by Aimee Ogden. A fantasy of ensouled beings, a meditation on melancholia & dissatisfaction, a pastoral journey of true love & found family, this novella is a balm as summer fades to autumn. Our drink is the Craftwood Fizz.

AI boosters take it for granted that the best business model is "flood the market with spam." But it isn't! That's actually a very marginal business model!

A far better business model is to create one thing that people really like.

I wrote about this a while back:

“Don’t Be Left Behind”
In the endless dustups over AI use in publishing, one assertion is presented over and over again as if it is self-evident fact: “If you…

I am not first and will be far from the last to say this:

I have purchased so many books because I saw them recommended or publicized here on bsky. I cannot urge you all enough to KEEP TALKING ABOUT BOOKS.

I know it's easier to talk up someone else's book, but this also means you, the shy author.
I have mentioned it before, so maybe, but I know others liked it too. Hooray for word of "mouth" (or post) for getting it seen.

If all goes well, we’ll be finishing up an ~18-month D&D campaign tonight. (If all does NOT go well, we’ll still be doing that, just without a chance for character epilogues.)

Far right billionaires want to replace journalists, writers, artists, and educators with "A.i." because THEY CAN CONTROL THE OUTPUTS. They want compliance. They want to limit what people are even capable of thinking.

Consumer-facing "A.i." is a tool of fascists. Reject it for that reason alone.

Seconded. This is really good (quick review for the interested, but you can just take my word for it: very good book you should read. I am entirely trustworthy in these matters: www.kevinvellum.com/p/infernos-a... )
I hope you will buy this book because it is WONDERFUL and you deserve it and also because I deserve more people to talk to about it 👀
The ebook of Mercutio is on sale in the US and Canada for $0.99, at all retailers, I think. Not sure how long that will be the case. It's a strange medieval prequel to Romeo & Juliet with bad fairies, Umberto Eco meets Susanna Clarke, going for a song at the moment www.kateheartfield.com/mercutio/

You didn't experience this. It didn't happen. This wasn't real.
But that feeling of a shared bond among all Americans in the early weeks after the attack is something I’m so glad I got to experience. Because it’s the thing that I think we’re missing the most today.

But NO I will not “unplug it,” that’s an insane suggestion. The scientific solution is to *give me more money.*
