I’m a metal fabricator by vocation with occasional sculpture sales too.

I studied metal sculpture at University of Oregon with instruction by Paul Buckner, Laura Alpert, Frank Okada & others.

My sub-studies included bronze-casting, figurative studies, drawing, psychology & philosophy.

In a year I’ve parted ways with 1/2 my “stuff”. Deciding what’s worth keeping (for now) is part of this.

This table gifted to me was manufactured at the Howard Shipyards in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Reportedly, it was made for Clyde Howard for his Great Lakes cabin.

This table was gifted to me from a dear friend who knew Esther Howard in his youth. Esther Howard was a daughter of Clyde Howard. The table was reportedly manufactured at the Howard Shipyards in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The Howard Family had a mansion across the street from the shipyards. It’s the Howard Steamboat Museum today. This table was reportedly made for Mr. Clyde Howard for a retreat cabin he maintained on one of the Great Lakes (Superior?). Measures 19” x 19” x 30”. I love all the hand-crafting. This table is solid in structure and the joints still fit tightly today. I’m unsure of date of manufacture but I’d guess circa 1900. Not for Sale / NFS. Excited to get one at face value, I was explaining the significance to the clerk.

Later, I went back to the store for beer and the same clerk says to me:

Found this apparent forked horn buck antler in the grass while I was cleaning up some brush this morning.

The texture is kinda like porcelain, probably from days in the grass under the summer sun.

At the bank I asked about 2026 coins. The teller was kind enough to tell me she didn’t have any but she offered me some Ike dollars.

I politely said “thanks” but I no longer collected them.

She put the coins away and reached for another drawer and says “I do have this 1928 $2 bill.”.

Been de-cluttering recently and it’s life-changing.

It was sorta challenging at first but I’m fully embracing it now.

Boxes of little items I’ve packed around for decades I’m feeling good parting ways with now

Donating, recycling, reselling & trashing as appropriate. Feels great.

Bought a $5 DVD of Blazing Saddles (1974) for my library & viewing tonight.

I’ve never seen it.

I was only a year old when this debuted and I think I was sent out of the room if it ever came on TV.

I’ve always enjoyed Gene Wilder and I recall Cleavon Little from The Waltons.

Had an epiphany while watching Star Trek: The Original Series episode “The Menagerie”.

The ancient, controlling caretaker of Talos 4 (portrayed by Meg Wyllie) is a character template for the conniving boss of the Springfield power plant, Mr. Burns on The Simpsons.

They both utter “excellent” too.

On July 10th a large, dead tree was removed from a parking lot along W 11th & Bailey Hill.

Judging by the proximity to the other tree I’d guess this was once the site of a homestead and these trees were intentionally planted (circa 1907?).

Weeks later only a stump remains.
I count about 119 rings.

On days that are challenging I like to wash away all the negative energy at the end of the day by watching, listening & moving to Soul Train.

Growing up we only got 3 channels and PBS.

At some point I recall we got Atlanta and Chicago stations and the USA Network too.
