A perspective on the shifting baseline syndrome from 1861.
Harrowing account of a now long-shifted baseline as the Rev Gerard Smith poetically laments biodiversity loss in England in a preface to the 'Ferns of Derbyshire' published on June 11, 1861 🌍

4/4 My love of exploring my OS map centred on my house was inspired by @alastairhumphreys.bsky.social book Local. Yesterday I received his latest book Unwilded.

I’ve not read it but I like to think that my finding of this Tiny Forest sits perfectly in the middle of a Venn Diagram of both books.

Irony:

1. The only realistic way I'm going to find readers of a book about turning off your phone and going outside is by pestering you on your phones.

2. This video promoting a book about paying attention is almost three minutes long... and therefore guaranteed to be watched by almost nobody.

I've written a new book about the benefits of spending a few minutes in nature every day, paying attention however works best for you – even doing extremely bad paintings.

I would be so grateful if you’d order a copy of Unwilded today for yourself or your friends.
