A real problem with concerns about oil prices spiking even more than they already have is that people cannot do anymore to mitigate increased costs. There's already been mass layoffs, SNAP cuts, plus higher energy and food prices. The unnecessary US-Canada trade war. People are exhausted.

Usual thinking is a big landslide makes post-election shenanigans harder, and to some degree that's true. But I worry it can cut the other direction: an apocalyptic wipeout can be its own don't-believe-it talking point (as w/ 2020) and also surviving House Rs are more uniformly radicalized crazies.

Really feels like Iran turning the screws and pushing gas to, say, $5-6 a gallon puts us in pretty uncharted waters, politically. So far the global oil infrastructure has proven to be remarkably resilient so maybe that doesn't happen, but doesn't look great!

all of these tools would be much more useful to far more people if companies spent money documenting how to use them and trained users on best practices. i realize that this is my hobbyhorse because i have done this work for two decades, but that does not make it untrue.
this from @ftrain.com is terrific, unsurprisingly, and I think this sentence actually understates the issue; it's not just that the big labs are in a hurry, it's that they don't see producing useful and well-documented tools for using these models as an important part of what they're doing
