Wet weather returns across parts of the north and west over the next 24 hours. ☔🌧️

The heaviest rainfall is expected across southwest Scotland and northwest England, where some places could see 30-40 mm of rain, with locally higher totals over hills.

The storm with a hole…
Wow. Hurricane #Polo looks spectacular from satellite this morning 🌀

It’s a category 5 beast with winds of 260 km/h (160 mph), and still intensifying. Luckily, it is still forecast to turn away from landfalling over Mexico.

This summer was the hottest on record in the UK

The summer of 1976 that some folks my age keep banging on about is now only the SEVENTH hottest on record

The top five hottest summers all happened since 2003

Curious why so much of #Europe is on fire 🔥 right now? NASA GRACE Soil moisture is in the bottom 1% across the vast majority of the Continent. This is what happens when the climate warms at 2X the Global rate, with 5 #heatwaves so far this summer.

Heatwave III

This time it’s… less humid

But still potentially dangerous, especially to those vulnerable to high temperatures

Thanks to climate change this franchise has a long lifespan ☹️
Parts of the UK are expected to experience the third heatwave of the year this week, with conditions predicted to be less humid than during June’s heatwave.

It was inevitable, wasn't it🙄

Of course the Telegraph would run with something like this👇

So let's remove some of the rose-tinted spectacles and also look at some of that data comparing 1976 with modern heat waves

Because the 1976 nostalgia porn is wearing a bit thin at this stage
