the united states is losing ground to china in the posting race, with chinese posters about four months behind the most advanced american posters. this is why I'm asking congress to authorize giving our nation's best posters $1 trillion, so that we can stay ahead in the posting race and win posting

there was somebody in the quotes of the previous repost making a very pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps point, which admittedly does blackpill me a little because most places I've worked have more or less punished ambition and picked winners and losers

Note - this isn’t how Bayesian statistics work, but it’s why they say things like “AI has a 10% chance of killing all humans.”
the thing they call 'Bayesianism' is superficially similar to Bayesianism except that it holds that anything bounding its power is negotiable

The thing about Bayes’ Theorem is that while you can use logic to propagate probability distributions through chains of thought, doing so without data just makes the result a new set of priors.

The result is just belief expressed as a degree of surprise.
Folks, you have to observe B for this to work!

For a long time I've wanted a sense of how trump has or hasn't interacted with chatbots (we know he posts a lot of slop sure). And this TIME anecdote about Grok arguably leading Trump into war is just extremely bracing

this is awesome
one of the most heated discussions on X is about the ethics of a project in which a person is running Saw-like “torture” and “pain” experiments on a series of locally hosted LLMs, sparking a wildly tiresome conversation about AI consciousness and the idea of “model welfare"...

Someone ‘Torturing’ LLMs in a Robot Prison Has Triggered the Dumbest Debate in AI Yet
The "AI Torture Chamber" has opened an upsetting and absurd window into the effective altruist obsession with "model welfare."

the trouble with talking about the so-called safety motivations of AI companies is that you simply cannot ignore the $30 trillion elephant in the room! and a lot of people sure seem to want to!

I really appreciate this regarding the machine god talk. in light of things like the Hugging Face incident and Jacob Coxon I feel like there's been a sort of discursive concession to the machine-god-believers, which desperately needs a corrective
