Well articulated, and I agree with Steve. IMO it could be basically syntactic sugar for a compile-time generated and destructured struct.

I’ll keep saying it: if you ever find yourself staking out a general position *against* broad rising productivity, you are advocating in favor of crushing poverty.
Yup. Rising economic productivity lifts people out of poverty more than just about anything at scale.

Trying out the new Apple Siri AI, and it’s remarkably opaque! So far I’ve found I may have to prompt two or three times to get adequate details, for example when asking it to explain its own architecture.

One major blind spot inherent in rationalism is the belief that human actors can ever *be* rational en masse. The pure belief that you can make arguments and convince the public, or even policy makers, of something by virtue of being right.
These guys have spent the past 20 years meticulously calibrating their P(doom) and seem to have failed to once consider the actual political economy of how to stop the thing they’re afraid of. They thought the would just carefully explain it and the rest of the world would update their priors

IMO, Rust today is not the language of the future. Rust’s memory safety w/out GC was groundbreaking, but the design choices it made mean build performance has an unacceptably high floor.
When agentic coding means an order of magnitude more build/run loops, that high floor really hurts.
