I am not a mathematician but this declaration goes beyond mathematics to touch on all academic fields. This I happily put my name to.
A group of 25 Fields Medalists, including myself, have made a joint declaration on Math and AI: mathandai.org . We welcome additional signatories. See also this article in the Economist announcing the declaration: www.economist.com/science-and-...

New #rstats 📦: mediacloud2 (happy about name recommendations).

Since the exitsting R packages were stale and I needed data, I wrote a new package. MediaCloud is an amazing resource for getting news media data, especially if you rehydrate the articles (e.g., through paperboy).
MediaCloud API (v4) Wrapper
A simple wrapper for version 4 of the MediaCloud API, which provides programmatic access to the MediaCloud archive of online news content (<https://www.mediacloud.org>).

Went to register with Irish Immigration but turned away bc I was missing a specific letter. No worries. What was much funnier is how shocked the person was when I told them I don’t have a UCD ID card.

Them: “Then how do swipe into work in the morning”?

Me: “I don’t… I just work” 😅

New paper with Yanna Krupnikov out in Political Communication! 🎉

We know moral-emotional content ("moral outrage") spreads fast on social media. But does that mean people actually want to see it? We tested whether people select this content when given the choice - turns out, not really.
Rethinking Assumptions About Moral Content Selection: Moral-Emotional Content May Be Less Appealing Than Assumed
Recent work has shown that moral-emotional content spreads rapidly on social media platforms such as X (Twitter). These patterns have led to concerns that social media facilitates the spread of mor...

Last night in Birmingham.

I am leaving for a happy reason but I’m still sad to leave. I absolutely loved living here and working with the TWICEASGOOD team at UoB.

I’m thankful for the friends I made and discovering that I love the theatre. I will miss my life here very much.

Telecommunication. When my parents immigrated in 1990 my mom wrote letters to my grandparents, and had sporadic and very expensive international calls. I’ve also immigrated away from my family but we can speak as frequently as we want and instantly with great ease.
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

1/ Happy to share our paper 'Still Instrumentally Inclusive' w/ @turnbulldugarte.com in @apsrjournal.bsky.social.

Understanding homonationalism remains important. Recent events (Berlin) have shown how quickly LGBT+ rights can become instrumentalized in debates about immigration and Islam.
