Homemade Shrimp Creole – a very simple and tasty dish. Basically shrimp in a spiced tomato sauce with the holy trinity, served with white rice and green onions.

I just got this antique silverplated Asprey hawthorne strainer for 33 Pounds sterling,
@davidwondrich.bsky.social. It turned out fantastic after a good polish. Quite a steal.

Do you know the age of this type of strainer?

I know you're not allowed to say this during the current debate, but the reason the left dominates academics, art, comedy, and music is that the right has stupid, discredited ideas, they're not funny, and dull resentment does not make for good art. No grand conspiracy required.

1914 Brooklyn cocktail – a potent but tasty one!

My version:

2 oz. rye whiskey
0.75 oz. dry vermouth
2 tsp. maraschino
2 tsp. Bigallet China-China

Stirred with ice, strained, lemon peel express, maraschino cherry.

Jerry Lee Lewis was not just an outstanding rock and roll musician, he was also a surprisingly good country singer!

This is one of his finest country recordings.

Is can be said about any piece of writing, really!

If you as an American are having a glass of wine, a cold beer, or a nice cocktail today, you can thank this woman—Pauline Sabin of the WONPR, who played an important role in the repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment (a.k.a. Prohibition).

Homemade Crawfish Étouffée, served with Crystal Hot Sauce. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite dishes of all time; it’s packed with flavor, easy to make and pretty healthy too.

Let's play some blues for Lou:

Grant Green – "Blues For Lou" (recorded in 1963; released in 1999.)

A relaxing, slow, introspective tune. Quite wonderful.

Still my favorite jazz guitarist—with Wes Montgomery a close second.

A big thing of homemade Crawfish Étouffée for dinner—of course served with white rice and Louisiana’s Pure Crystal Hot Sauce.

Delicious.

Martini with absinthe from the other night:

2 1/4 oz. dry gin
3/4 oz. dry vermouth
2 dashes orange bitters (“Feegan’s” used)
3 good dashes (about half a tsp.) of absinthe (La Fée used)

Stir with ice, strain, and garnish with a lemon peel.

Truly an ambrosial drink. And yet so simple.

Improved Holland Gin Cocktail anno 1862:

2 oz. genever
1 tsp. gum syrup
1 tsp. maraschino
2 dashes Angostura
1 dash absinthe
Lemon peel

Stir with ice and strain into a chilled glass. Express a lemon peel and slip it in. Then smile and enjoy.

Damn tasty and unapologetically old-school.

Creole cocktail. That’s 1.5 oz. rye whiskey, 1 oz. sweet vermouth, and a dribble drabble of Bigallet China-China/Amer Picon and Bénédictine.

Stir, strain, up, lemon twist.

Despite its New Orleans-style name, I don’t think there is any evidence this drink was created in New Orleans. Tasty, however.

Wes Montgomery's 1968 masterpiece "Up And At It".

His sound is always instantly recognizable—in part due to his signature playing style of using his thumb instead of a pick to pluck the guitar strings.
