Some news.

My freelance life is over. I'm going to be a Data Visuals Journalist in sport for The Guardian. Starting next month.

From a hobby to a job to a national newspaper. It's been a journey.

And it's only just starting.
Two former LFC 14s… Chiesa to win it from the bench?

No.
🏆 Up for another cup tie as Xabi Alonso and Jordan Henderson return to Anfield... again.

AFC Wimbledon is planning to sell 90% of its "economic rights" to Dr Omar Mir, Baron of Thorntoun, who runs the European arm of G42, the UAE's AI spytech firm, with Marty Edelman, a long-time Man City board member. He bought the barony and we can't find his PhD.

Man Utd are one of football’s most successful clubs, which makes it pretty weird that they’ve only ever had two successful managers. Maybe unless you’re Scottish and special, the club is unmanageable, and maybe they too have been a problem. By @brewin.bsky.social

An unmanageable club? Carrick the latest to suffer in Manchester United’s faded grandeur
Only Matt Busby and Alex Ferguson have truly succeeded in the Old Trafford hot seat with each casting uneasy shadows

Some thoughts here for @sport.theguardian.com on the majestic Alexia Putellas' record-equalling third #BallonDor plus Joan Laporta's Freudian slip and why the organisers - despite progress - still haven't quite managed to deliver full parity for the women's game.

Alexia Putellas a worthy Ballon d’Or winner but the limited shortlist illustrates flaws
Neglect of African football and a third win for the Spanish great does little to challenge narrative that the prize is reserved only for players of the top nations

Meet the new overpromoted club legend, same as the old overpromoted club legend.

Like Solskjaer before him, Carrick should never have got the United gig full time. My latest article looks at why, and one way in which the side have dropped off this season.

I’d like to tell you about a small but meaningful interaction I had yesterday.

I’m in Berlin with my friend Jane, and we were getting some food. The place had a bathroom attendant to check your receipt before you went in to use it. She was an older woman, and seemingly didn’t speak any English.

Unmistakably clear there, Old Trafford sang for Carrick on repeat until the moment he entered the tunnel, then it switched to vociferous boos for the players trailing in after him. Jeez.

Brighton are the best team Liverpool have played this season and it’s not even close.

So that’s an excellent three points. Brighton had the first big chance of the game but that was their lot on that front.

Eight wins in the last 10 in all comps. Up the Reds.

Brighton are very good, Liverpool have attacked slightly better. Entertaining half, that.
