Dorky antitrust economist with an interest in sports economics, athletes' rights, and way too many boardgames.
Apparently these Democrats today joined the majority of Republicans in voting to strip college athletes of their economic rights.

I'm particular upset with Senators like @padilla.senate.gov
@schatz.bsky.social and @wyden.senate.gov who I would have expected not to vote anti-progressively.

I am not sure which direction Rick Scott thinks is the "right thing" vis-a-vis destroying humanity.
Rick Scott: "With regard to destroying mankind, these companies need to do the right thing on their own. We're not going to get smart enough to regulate them. We're not going to get something done up here."

I found out that @padilla.senate.gov has switched to supporting the PCSA. What a horrible position for a Senator from the State that started the Athletes Rights movement when Nancy Skinner pushed for SB206.

Fun fact: the Germanic languages' words for Cheese come from a borrowing from classical Latin: Caseum. The French and Italian words for cheese do not.

Not all Romance languages abandoned their mother tongue's word. Queso, for example, is cognate with Käse, as is the dialectical italina Cacio.

If I were Canada, I would 100% call this bluff. Join the Euro, whatever.

I think the only reasonable response to a headline like this is to say "what an asshole!"

I mean, it's just pure assholery all the way down with him.

Today's designer diary covers the early stages of An Infamous Traffic: Second Edition, the difficulty of understanding how designs really work, and how, at least for me, coming to really dislike something is often the first step in building something new. boardgamegeek.com/thread/37682...
Designer Diary 3 - Diagnostic Difficulties | An Infamous Traffic: Second Edition
I consider myself a pretty optimistic and joyful worker. I love getting to the office early and kicking off a new project, and I never mind staying late to talk about some little element of a design. ...

Refloating this for the weekday crowd. Ted Cruz was given 10 minutes to go on ESPN's College Game Day and lie about a bill he wants to get passed by tricking Democrats into voting with him.
Here is a bunch of lies Ted Cruz told on College Game Day and my efforts to providing the true answers via a brief fisking. I'll answer each one in text below as well.

Short version: When you have to pile this many false statements in one paragraph to sell something, the something ain't good.

A very stable genius.
Trump is having a Crashout Monday: "Oil is flowing through the Hormuz Strait. The Countries of the World, which have been no help to us whatsoever, should, and will, reimburse the US when this SCAM Confligration is all over. We are doing it much more for others, than we are for ourselves ... "

Democrats in Congress. Your voters do not want you "reach across the aisle" to make nice-nice with Ted Cruz on the PCSA.

I wonder if there is a little part of his brain saying "hey, that's just like Trump! How Ironic"
Mike Johnson: "The Iranians are not trustworthy negotiating partners. They lie every day. For some of them, it's part of their religion."

You'll be playing with 'em soon before Game Night is over
How can you lose?

Narrator: This was not happening in California.
Tim Scott: "Think about how dangerous states like California [are] that want to take away your kids if you don't agree w/pronouns the schools chooses for your kids. They're coming for our culture. If you don't want to stand up & fight for the soul of this country, your wood is wet. It's that simple"

the NCAA's argument for the PCSA is basically the same as bankrobbers saying: "we're getting caught robbing banks and having to go to jail too often. if robbing banks were not illegal, we'd have more money and time to do other things, rather than be in jail all the time"

Chaos is just management's word for "we're keeping less of the revenue" combined with "our jobs are no longer sinecures"
Some people say college sports in the player-pay era is chaos.

To many athletes, it's been life-changing for them and their families. For instance: Some college football players are buying their own homes, gaining a foothold on lifelong financial stability.

Football players are using their NIL earnings to purchase properties in college towns. “This can change our lives forever.”

The old joke about the NCAA being so mad about Kentucky they gave Cleveland State 3 years probation seems to be at work, causing Trump to punish Canada for Iran being a totally predictably difficult country to defeat via air power.
