A book should NOT be req'd for tenure--esp now w/ the inordinate pressures on peer review. It puts untenable demands on scholars & publishers AND enables tenure committees to shirk their duty & blame presses for killing jobs/careers instead of actually engaging scholars' work. It's infuriating.

This whole thread 👇 and the accompanying article and also it's about teaching.
Been thinking about this since I read it. If things keep progressing, I worry you arrive at a psychologically horrible point, where one after another, all knowledge workers are forced to argue that their jobs, and the way they've been done traditionally, have value beyond the straightforward output.
Very forceful statement by Terry Tao about AI and math.

Note, he is not claiming the models aren't real and powerful. He's talking about how that power should be used. This, I believe, is what all AI discussions should center.
