Part (but far from all) of what's horrific here is: a woman weighing the consequences of speaking up about being sexually assaulted, because speaking up imposes burdens and costs (and so does not speaking up).
Congressional candidate is raped while repairing her campaign signs
Embarrassed, she initially didn’t want to report attack. Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office's investigation is ongoing. A Phoenix New Times exclusive.

any time i see the “ai model escapes containment” headlines i think “they should lose their engineering licenses, that shit’s out of spec”
Those of us who have the privilege of holding a role in constructing the material world others have to live in have a duty of care to its inhabitants and that's all I have to say about any kind of engineering.

the problem with men is much deeper than any conversation about how men should police each other more admits because the fact is - speaking from experience - the kind of guys who would say the thing and the kind who'd say "hey shut up" segregate. this makes the problem harder...

just ban frats. everyone knows that’s the answer and no one seriously denies what frats are actually for, just as no one seriously denies that playing football can lead to CTE.

SUSAN COLLINS: I was successful in getting road salt removed from the Canada tariff list

TROY JACKSON: What about everything else? We can't eat road salt

hey so totally randomly can someone remind me of the history between the mensheviks and the bolsheviks and how that alliance went once the latter got real power?
while i am commenting on this:

i have reached the end of my rope with this sort of thing and my current point of view is that the weird monks should not be allowed to disavow their satanist wing, and also that their satanist wing appears to mostly rule them and tell them what to do
right, exactly. i am adjacent to rationalists because i have worked alongside rationalists for a decade. some are very earnest EA monks who more or less give away the huge amount of money they make. some are neoreactionaries with essentially Satanic values. the monks and neoreactionaries get along.

hmmm do we think maybe there's been some cheapening of the framework around genocide here if it can encompass the pro-Palestinian mayor of New York City.
Pro-Palestinian protesters gather outside City Hall to call out Mayor Zohran Mamdani for what they see as his betrayal of the movement.

"Mayor Mamdani, you can't hide we charge you with genocide" was a chant that just rang out.

If anything this seems like a strong argument for just abolishing ICE pre-emptively and purging the DoJ to fill it with loyalists (not necessarily partisans, but at least people who believe in the basic tenets of democracy)
I’m pretty worried about ICE/CBP going blue-flu to ratfuck the next Dem administration tbh. I don’t really think there’s a good counter to them doing malicious compliance and stopping even normal enforcement, then going “sorry, we had to let that child predator go, due to woke” to sympathetic media
We are at the peak of ICE's ability to organize support for its activities before Democrats start taking more power & disrupting their efforts. And even when we do places like Florida will double down on state support to help facilitate whatever Congress tries to prevent.

personally I would like to see Tracey and Hanania run over the edge of a cliff and then look down, pause for a few seconds, and fall, leaving imprints shaped like themselves by the impact.

interesting that conservatives were militantly “we must reward hustle” when the target was affirmative action at elite universities and now, when faced with the success of south asians and other groups, it is “i think we are too meritocratic”
It's absolutely bonkers to me that this image led directly to this tweet.

who knows if jackson can win this thing but i am glad that he is making clear that susan collins's whole scam is to do everything she can to make life worse for mainers and then take credit for mitigating it in the slightest way possible
Troy Jackson after Collins takes credit for rural healthcare cuts in big beautiful bill not being as bad as they could've been even though she voted to advance the bill: "Sen. Collins is like an arsonist who helped set the fire, and then she wants credit for bringing a cup of water to put it out"

Sorry but China and Mihoyo are like kings of the gacha game market. They just funneled their gambling vice from sports into mobile games.
looking at the gambling stats in the United States and Brazil, and the CCP's old-style Communist puritanism has done a great service to the Chinese public by keeping gambling underground or limited to Macau casinos.

You don’t have to hand it to Richard Hanania
The so-called "former" white supremacist's work doesn't show accountability—or that he's actually moved on from his earlier views, Christopher Mathias writes.
