Impressed by Split Airport, no signs of EES issues here. Straight through. Only problem is the stench of cigarettes everywhere 🤢

I don't know how Croatia does it, but every time I visit it's like a balm for my soul

In 1296 Marco Polo was captured by the Venetians, 730 years later I watched a commemorative opera performance overlooking the ancient town of Korcula, which claims the famous traveller was born there.

And now I'm at a free opera concert overlooking the Adriatic. There really is something magical about this country.
As anticipated Croatia has more than redeemed itself
Arggghh Croatia what has happened? In two days we've been scammed twice, our ferry "broke down" and I've seen how much more of an overcrowded hellhole Dubrovnik has become. Fortunately Korcula is proving perfectly pretty.

Three months of work and some truly excellent travel writers have gone into the Autumn '26 issue of Mountains Magazine. Taking delivery of the hard copies is always a hugely nerve-wracking moment, but I'm happy to say that this issue looks very, VERY good. Massive relief!

American Classics at the Proms this evening, one of the best Proms I've been to in recent times. That country sure has produced some talented composers.

Watching the New Forest burn is deeply upsetting. It looks as though it's heathland that's burning; when I lived in the Forest heathland was constantly burned to create grazing space for the ever-increasing number of ponies and livestock. Hopefully the trees are safe and the land recovers quickly.

This would be amazing. Copenhagen managed it, Rotterdam managed it, Paris managed it. I've long wondered what it would take to make the Regent's Canal swimmable...maybe that hope will come true

British exceptionalism strikes again. The EES queues are becoming increasingly long, but (52% of voting) Brits chose that option and must deal with the consequences.

Sam Neill was such a wise, gentle and talented person and, as Daniel says below, what Sam says in this video can apply to any freelancer (I know I've felt the same as a writer). A wonderful man who lived in a special part of the world and who will be greatly missed.

There you go folks, you can no longer trust VRBO to tell or show you the truth. Abhorrent thing to do, let alone brazenly admit it like this.
