In T-2 hours and 35 minutes from the time of this post, the ARISS cross-band voice repeater and packet radio are scheduled to go off in support of the Progress 96 docking.

Educators in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East can apply by Oct. 26 for contacts in the second half of 2027.

Heads up, ARISS operators and schools!

The planned outage for the cross-band repeater and APRS packet radios has moved to Sept. 18-19 to support Progress docking activities. The HamTV outage has also been extended based on the payload work schedule.

Want to talk to the crew on the ISS using amateur radio?

Patience is key. When crew members have free time and choose to get on the air, they will use the ARISS cross-band voice repeater for casual contacts. These sessions are unscheduled, so the best approach is to listen and be ready.

Tuesday science tip: The ARISS voice repeater always transmits on 437.800 MHz, but you may not receive it exactly there. As the ISS moves across the sky, the signal appears to shift in frequency. That's Doppler shift, and adjusting for it can help you hear more of each pass.

As students head back to school across much of the world, ARISS is preparing for another busy season of ISS contacts.

Some upcoming European contacts will use HamTV, so let's take a look at the current status of the system.

Several reports on the AMSAT status page show the cross-band voice repeater is back online after this week's outage.
Listen to the voice repeater on 437.800 MHz and transmit on 145.900 MHz (CTCSS 67 Hz). More frequencies in the graphic. And don't forget about Doppler shift!

A spacewalk on Tuesday, September 1 will necessitate a 48 hour power-down of ARISS radios between now and Wednesday. Planned start and end times are in the graphic.
