Wow, that's something of a clear picture, innit?
As much as the EU deserves criticism, the right-wing exit proposed by ghouls like Farage and Johnson was never a decent prospect for anyone but them.
Now please fix it, I want to be able to visit my friends without needing government approval.
Just copy & share everywhere please.

Absolutely thumping.

#LYICMGat50 50 recordings, ahead of my 50th birthday. At #21 we have Richard Hickox’s uncommonly beautiful rendering of Vaughan Williams’s Pilgrim’s Progress. This work is hardly ever discussed, yet it is a complete musical wonder. A set to treasure.

#LYICMGat50 50 recordings, ahead of my 50th birthday. At #23 it’s Samson François and André Cluytens with Ravel’s Piano Concertos. These vintage performances capture the fantasy only Ravel’s writing and the unblended orchestral sound brings wonderful textural clarity.

#LYICMGat50 50 recordings, ahead of my 50th birthday. At #24 we have Karajan’s DG Madama Butterfly. For me, Freni’s performance is devastating. This is particularly true when she sings ‘Un Bel Di’, flying into the stratosphere with raw emotional power.

#LYICMGat50 50 recordings, ahead of my 50th birthday. At #25 we have Janet Baker again, this time with the Melos Ensemble and songs by Ravel, Delage and Chausson. Gorgeous and delicate in many ways, but seductive when it is right to be so. Glorious.

#LYICMGat50 50 recordings, ahead of my 50th birthday. At #26 we have Bruno Walter’s Stereo Brahms 3. The mono account is even more wild, but this one just balances the frantic sections with the more lyrical episodes better. The Second is also fabulous here.

#LYICMGat50 50 recordings, ahead of my 50th birthday. At #28 we have Pierre Fournier and George Szell with Dvořák’s wondrous Cello Concerto. I could have chosen Karajan and Rostropovich, but I think Fournier is even more magically attentive to nuance. Such a wonderful recording.

#LYICMGat50 50 recordings, ahead of my 50th birthday. At #29 we have a disc that could have easily made my top 5. But here it is, one of the most emotionally taxing records I know. Vintage Baker, for sure. Great music in great performances.

#NowSpinning Sibelius suite from Scaramouche, from this new disc of Finnish works. The orchestra is ideally suited to this repertoire. Scaramouche is one of Sibelius’s oddest and most enigmatic works, but this suite brings out the best of it, I think.

#LYICMGat50 50 recordings, ahead of my 50th birthday. At #30 we have Liszt’s Années de Pèlerinage with Lazar Berman. This set opened my ears to Liszt far more than anything I had heard before it. Whilst others may have equalled it, now, the personal value for me is high.

#LYICMGat50 50 recordings, ahead of my 50th birthday. At #31 it’s Dutoit in Montreal for Holst’s Planets. It’s a close run thing between this, Steinberg, Boult and Paavo Järvi for me, but I find the Dutoit so atmospheric and powerfully projected, it is my personal winner.

#LYICMGat50 50 recordings, ahead of my 50th birthday. At #32 Petri Sakari and the Iceland SO smash it out of the park with Alfvén orchestral works. The First Swedish Rhapsody and Legend of the Skerries are miraculous examples of how to weave great tunes into a moving whole.

#LYICMGat50 50 recordings, ahead of my 50th birthday. At #36 we have this disc of Britten concertos. Or, more specifically, it is the Richter performance of the Piano Concerto that stands out for me. It’s impishly witty, yet powerful and strong. Superb sound, too!
