I haven’t been very good at keeping up with posting here. However, September was a big month for me and I wanted to share some more on it. Starting with the 1-year anniversary of Silenced Voices

I am dyslexic. Contrary to popular belief, I am not a bad reader. I am a very good reader. However, I am also a very slow reader. By the time I was in high school, I could not finish a lot of my reading assignments by the deadlines. Graphic novel adaptations saved me.
Oh boy. Okay. I am going to respond earnestly and genuinely, because I totally understand why this would seem like a contrary concept! Many librarians, educators, and guardians want to encourage their kids to read more, but don't see how graphic novels might help.

Let's talk about it!
"We want to increasing reading by introducing more books with pictures."

Go ahead and tell me how I've got it all wrong.

being in animation, its not from AI. the streaming bubble bursting cuz everyone hopped on the grain cuz it undermined unions, less regulations and more mergers are what lead to the loss. AI is just what people think but it started way before that
NEW from me:

Over the last 4 years, America has lost more than 200k jobs in creative fields like publishing, film, TV, or graphic design. It's the worst stretch for arts jobs outside of recessions.

How much is AI to blame? And can the arts' business model survive?🧵

Pixar receives a $26.2 Million Tax credit to keep film jobs in CA, and immediately lays off 10% of its work force, after making over a billion from Toy Story 5, the highest-grossing film of 2026.
Pixar's Layoffs Came Days After Receiving a $26 Million Tax Credit. So I Wrote California Officials.
State tax incentives should create and retain jobs for Californians, not subsidize corporate layoffs.

Excited to be heading to #annecyfilmfestival! I’ll have two projects with me, To the Other Side feature & Aurora short film, happy to not shut up about either.

Looking forward to meeting old and new friends, particularly anyone in the animated documentary space. If this is you, let’s connect 🤝

Trump should show up here at the L.A. County ballot processing center because he’d learn within five minutes this is democracy in action, not some conspiracy.

I really NEED more people to watch “Orb: on the movements of the Earth”, it got buried in Netflix and there’s no dub, so probably why it had less attention, but it’s fantastic. It’ll change your life 🫵

I read Persepolis in high school; we had one copy in the library. At the time, it blew me away that you could make comics with so much heart like this, about memory, displacement, conflict, etc. I've read and watched the movie plenty of times. Will forever be grateful for all Marjane Satrapi gave us

The craziest thing about the AI boosters is when they say “you can’t do this without AI” “I can’t make an event flyer without AI” when we all remember just 3 years ago how we all got along fine without it.

cant ever pinpoint when #indieanimationday actually is, but anyway here’s something I’ve been doing: Aurora is a horror short film about violence, displacement and terror surrounding mining and mega projects in Latin America, with a monster twist.

Like all these projects, still hunting for funds 🥹

Man, lots of talks and sessions dedicated to AI in the programming for Annecy this year. Really ramming this shit down, uh? There was a big rejection of it in previous years, but wondering if this will hold this year...

Been slowly working on Aurora, a short film about violence, displacement, and terror surrounding mining and mega projects in Latin America, with a monster twist.

It’s been a sloooow process; finding funds is always the main problem, but slowly it’s getting there. It’ll get made, for sure!
