Last week, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners voted to offer $68 million to the city of Atlanta for the purchase of the Atlanta City Detention Center.

Today, Mayor Andre Dickens sent a letter to county accepting the county's offer.

Council member Kelsea Bond says they hope that this paper is not held longer than one cycle. They believe a public-facing task force is essential, while the mayor's working group is more intended to align city offices. Bond wants these conversations to be public and documented.

Developers get all their brownfield remediation expenses credited against the project's property taxes. A State office OKs the amount.
So Schools, County & City pay the remediation cost. The project pays no property tax until the remediation cost has been offset.
Mardis says brownfields represent redlining and generational harm. The proposed data center site is a brownfield. Mardis says there are tax rebates for developers rehabilitating brownfields

A map on the event’s website shows more than 400 events planned by groups and individuals in nearly every U.S. state, as of Aug. 13. Twenty of those events are in Georgia. About 22,000 people across the country have registered with the event, according to organizers.
