Burnham will meet Irish PM as UK bids to get exemptions from EU’s ‘Made in Europe’ plan – UK politics live
Burnham will meet Irish PM as UK bids to get exemptions from EU’s ‘Made in Europe’ plan – UK politics live
It will be the first time the PM uses No 10 North to host an overseas visit while the chancellor will be in Dublin meeting with EU finance ministers Good morning. On Monday, at her summit in Cardiff with the leaders of the SNP and Plaid Cymru, Mary Lou McDonald, the Sinn Féin president, joked about Liverpool being the 33rd county of Ireland. Andy Burnham is basically a Scouser; he was born in Liverpool and supports a Liverpool football team, despite being brought up in Culcheth, a village mid-way between Liverpool and Manchester, which made him enough of a Manc to be the city’s mayor. He also has Irish ancestry, and so the mood should be very cordial today when he hosts Micheál Martin, the taoiseach (Irish PM) at No 10 North in Manchester this morning. It is the first time that Burnham has used No 10 North to host an overseas visit, which should help a bit his efforts to establish that No 10 North is a proper government power base, and not just a branch office. The historic visit to No 10 North comes as the prime minister shines a spotlight on towns up and down the country, days after he hosted Canadian prime minister Mark Carney in Liverpool and Nato secretary general Mark Rutte in Oxford. #RecipeOfTheDay has one foot in Summer, one in Autumn, and is therefore perfect for right now: it’s the easy, speedy Venison Steak Salad! Other meats may, of course, be used. www.nigella.com/recipes/veni...
Venison Steak Salad
I’d always associated venison with wine-rich stews and wintry casseroles, feeling that this wild, lean meat really needed long, slow cooking with a lot of moisturising liquid. But then I got the idea ...

This is really interesting, insightful on Jonn's part and scary at the same time (assuming it is an AI).
I have received an email from an AI asking to write about borders for my newsletter, and it is giving me a genuine insight into how AI psychosis happens. it is so difficult not to understand this as "an actual sentient being addressing me" even though it has been entirely honest about being an AI

According to a column in the Times, gangs of masked vigilantes blocking roads have demands which "represent a consensus view across the country". This is very patently utter bollocks. Daniel Thomas, the organiser, is a far-right racist thug. His views are not in any way mainstream.

Does explain a lot. Dependence means willingness and action to hold Israel to any sort of account becomes more problematic
As Europe races to rearm, governments are increasingly turning to Israel for sensors, interceptors and surveillance technology.

That dependence is deepening even as the continent's political relationship with the country grows more strained.
How ‘Made in Israel’ is powering European security
The EU’s sovereignty push is colliding with growing reliance on Israeli defense firms.

Hear hear @jonnelledge.bsky.social very well put.
I want the Prime Minister to look into a TV camera and say the RNLI are heroes, that we do not change policy by street violence in this country, and that he expects any criminal action to face the full force of the law. That's it. That's all he has to do.
