Runs in North London
A chilly road run before sunrise. Wore my hi-vis tabard for a brisk-ish 6.5K. Two lovely cats watched me go by. Also passed a man either sleeping or meditating in his car. (Was worried he was dead, but thankfully he changed position.) #Running #UKRunChat

It was windy and horribly humid. Ran 7K. Three people said hello. Saw a woodpecker – an unusual treat. Almost tripped over a pizza box discarded on the path, but managed to not go down. #Running #UKRunChat

I have a cold, so could only run a slow 10K. Windswept paths. No hellos. One cycle club. Two cats. One strong odour of wacky baccy. #Running #UKRunChat

A chilly start called for the first long-sleeved top of the season. Ran a slow 7.5K. One hello. Saw a cat in a window and a fox on a driveway. A lot of excitable dogs woofing. #Running #UKRunChat

A pretty sunrise. Ran 7.5K. One cat. One hello. One rat. Ten Canada geese. #Running #UKRunChat

Ran 13K at a nice, consistent pace and had what felt like the best run in ages. It was warm and windy, but not unpleasantly so. Two hellos. Two cats. Several Canada geese. #Running #UKRunChat

Probably a bad idea, with blisters still healing, but I ran 6.5K. Three hellos. Counted seven Canada geese pottering in the playing field. At one point I tripped on a kerb but thankfully found my footing and avoided going over. #Running #UKRunChat

Ran the Richmond RunFest half marathon. Brilliantly organised. After a scenic tour of Kew Gardens, there’s a long stretch along the Thames. Humidity and blisters made the last 8K pretty brutal, but my time wasn’t too bad: just four seconds slower than last year’s course PB! #Running #UKRunChat

It was actually quite chilly in the shade – refreshing after months of being too hot. The last run before my half marathon went well: an easy 6.5K along the brook, with only blister pain to spoil the experience. Four hellos. Beautiful orange cat on a wall. #Running #UKRunChat

A sunny, humid, breezy start. Ran 6.5K. The blister plasters mostly did their job, so it went better than expected. One hello. Counted 11 Canada geese in the field. #Running #UKRunChat

Ran 16K – the last long run before my half marathon. Foot blisters were agony, making it feel like an unpleasant slog. Highlight: seeing the Canada geese (I counted nine) back in their field after many months. Both water leaks have now been fixed. #Running #UKRunChat

Wore brand-new trainers for my 7.5K. They felt good – until they started rubbing. A few spots of rain arrived on the wind, but didn’t amount to much. My cat met me on the walk home. #Running #UKRunChat

Very humid. Ran a slow and grim 18K. One cycle club. Two hellos. Four cats. One of the two water leaks has been fixed. Highlight: a woman playing a saxophone on a bench by the brook. #Running #UKRunChat

It finally rained. I’ve never been so happy to get wet. Ran a very slow 7.5K. Saw one fox and two cats. Three people said hello. Neither of the water leaks have been fixed. #Running #UKRunChat

It was quite windy. Ran 7.5K on aching legs. Saw three cats and one dragonfly. #Running #UKRunChat
August 25, 2026 at 8:08 AM
It felt like a chilly start, at just 12°C. Ran a fairly challenging 17K. Saw two cats, both beauties. Two water leaks – kind of ironic given the drought conditions. One police incident (car wrapped around lamp post; nobody hurt). One abandoned giraffe toy. #Running #UKRunChat

Ran 7.5K and quite enjoyed it. Three cats but no hellos. Still no rain for the thirsty brown grass. #Running #UKRunChat
August 20, 2026 at 12:58 PM
Ran 7.5K in 86% humidity. It seemed desperate to rain, but the rain just didn’t happen. Meanwhile, the poor old grass is getting browner. Two hellos. One pretty cat by the brook. #Running #UKRunChat
August 18, 2026 at 8:47 AM
A cloudy, humid start. Ran 16K again – four seconds slower than last week. Saw a cycle club. Passed an abandoned toy mouse. One wacky baccy smoker. Three hellos. Four or five drops of rain (no use to the yellow-brown grass). Three cats, one of them gazing into the brook. #Running #UKRunChat
August 16, 2026 at 8:11 AM
A very hot 7.5K, eyes stinging from the sweat. Saw two cats, one pied wagtail, a dragonfly and a red admiral butterfly. #Running #UKRunChat #Heatwave

Ran 7.5K. Another warm one. Two friendly hellos. A lot of dogs. One strong whiff of wacky baccy. #Running #UKRunChat
August 11, 2026 at 9:24 AM
Ran a slow 16K. It was tough, but I was pleased with the distance if not the speed. One cat. One hello. One abandoned paperback on a bench by the river (Danielle Steel). #Running #UKRunChat
August 8, 2026 at 9:02 AM
It was sunny, but not too hot. Had my best run for ages – fastest 7.5K since October – with parts where I felt I was absolutely flying along. A rare delight. #Running #UKRunChat
August 6, 2026 at 8:12 AM
Went out at 5:45, in the cooler air, and ran 7.5K. It was tough because I hadn’t slept much. Saw three cats, including a beautiful Burmese. #Running #UKRunChat
August 4, 2026 at 6:19 AM
Trying to extend my distance before the next half marathon (Richmond), so ran 14K. It went much better on the energy side of things. Two hellos. One cycle club. In the field, I saw a boy and his dad playing with a remote-control plane. It crashed by the river. #Running #UKRunChat
